The Wondrous Accord of Thunder

雷法
Zou Tiebi's Commentary Leiting Fan Mantra Incantation Green water, autumn waves, deep and clear Green water refers to the emerald pool. Autumn waves refer to metal generating water. A thousand-jun axe blade feels light on the back This speaks of the Thunder Gods each driving chariots and holding axes, floating through the air. Willow trees by the river are blown down by the wind The river is the Heavenly River. Willow is the Earth Mansion star. Willow Earth generates Metal, Metal generates Water, Metal and Water generate Taiyin, which is the meaning of the moon generating the water wheel. Sequentially, Water then generates Wood, Wood generates Fire, Wood and Fire generate Taiyang, which is the meaning of the sun generating the fire wheel. Metal and Wood rely on each other, Water and Fire harmonize together; this is the image of the sun and moon joining in conjunction. Forming the Sanskrit mantra, suddenly a divine wind blows it into a small star beside the sixth star of the Southern Dipper, which is the Heavenly River. Holding Chang'e without a start Taiyin is generated by Metal and Water, Taiyang is generated by Wood and Fire. The two principles join in conjunction, forming the Sanskrit mantra, emerging from a state of natural non-alarm and non-awareness. When light, it is as light as dust in the air This is when making rain or snow fall; the Sanskrit mantra is as light as this. When heavy, it is as heavy as a thousand weights of iron This is when praying for clear skies; the Sanskrit mantra is as heavy as this. The Thunder God pushes it into the Heavenly River, blocking the waves, which is the meaning of the three rivers being closed off. When white, it is as white as snow in the sky; when red, it is as red as orangutan's blood The Sanskrit mantra for praying for snow is white; all gods appear in icy postures and snowy appearances, graceful and light. The Sanskrit mantra for praying for clear skies is red; all gods act within red fiery clouds. When praying for rain, the Sanskrit mantra is black; all gods act within black clouds and water. These all speak of the transformations and spiritual communion of the Sanskrit mantra. Weaver Girl and Fourth Brother These are the star gods within the Southern Dipper and Heavenly River. They are companions near Taiyin. One is named Gou Lou, one is named Ji Li, one is named Deng Seng, and one is named De Se. They drive fiery dragons and fiery chariots, and are the gods who execute thunderbolts. Swiftly, swiftly, as commanded by law This is to instruct the Thunder Gods to each drive their chariots and hold their axes, floating through the air, to be executed as commanded by law. Secret Principles of Thunder Magic If one's own spirit is spiritual, the magic will also be spiritual. If I am not spiritual, who will invoke the Thunder Gods? If I can sincerely inspire, the Thunder Gods will respond well. One inspiration, one response, a thousand certainties, ten thousand certainties. If one intentionally tries to inspire the gods, the gods will instead not respond. Unintentional inspiration brings a response like an echo. It is nothing but absolute emptiness, just without delusional thoughts. A whole piece of true heart, without knowing or recognizing. The mind and the Thunder Gods, blended as one. I am the Thunder God, and the Thunder God is me. Responding as I will, there is nothing that cannot be responded to. Compassion and benefiting others aligns with the Heavenly Heart. Valuing life as virtue, even Heaven will not violate it. The Thunder obeys Heaven's command; can it violate me? The above was personally taught by Fire Master Wang Zhenren to Wang Wenqing, who served as an official. It is the secret transmission of the Thunder. Sitting Cultivation Practice Both eyes facing both kidneys, recognize this space in between Concentrate the spirit and stabilize the breath, place the tongue against the upper palate, focus the mind and eyes inward, looking down at the Dantian. After a short while, visualize the ancestral qi billowing, continuous and unbroken, which is the single point of light between the two kidneys, also known as the method of breaking the earth to summon thunder. Suddenly a sound rings out, a thunderbolt pierces the Niwan When the first yang stirs, visualize the ancestral qi passing from the lower Dantian through the Weilü, slightly expanding the chest and straightening the spine, to open the lower gate. Feel it rising from the Jiaji, turning like a windlass, slightly stretching the center, to open the middle gate. Then retract the shoulders and raise the head, feeling it pass the Yujing and enter the Niwan, to open the upper gate. The Master says: "The Jiaji dual gate penetrates the crown; this alone is the root of cultivation." This is called opening the Heavenly Gate. Circulate back to the Dantian to nourish, as sweet as honey and cool When you feel saliva filling the mouth, hold the breath, clench the teeth, and swallow slightly, like a stone dropping into the Dantian. The Master says: "Frequently swallow the Jade Nectar of the Flower Pool," which harmonizes the five qi, blends the hundred spirits, revolves the spirit ten times, and elevates all qi to immortality. The knife-handle and the bellows, the opening and closing cultivation, are all within this. If someone reaches this, they can return to the immortal realm Again, visualize the ancestral qi in the central yellow spleen palace, forming a ball of golden light, with a secret character inside, feeling like a baby not yet out of the womb. Swallow the saliva, visualizing the golden light gathering and refining. Forget cunning and eliminate thoughts, then pry open the Weilü, surge the body up again directly through the Jiaji dual gate. The Master says: "The Sovereign of the Purple Palace dashes straight up." The mind and eyes focus, the chest bursts open, opening from the Yintang Mingtang. Look up at the Great Void, the golden light and secret characters are distinct, filling the universe, then the Fire Envoy appears in the midst of the flames. The Master says: "Stamping over the Dipper's handle, the sky turns dark, rolling the Yellow River's water to flow backward." He also says: "Overturning the ten thousand layers of clouds in the North Sea, rolling up a thousand fathoms of snow from the Yellow River," which is exactly this. The above was narrated by Chisongzi and Zhenren Yin, annotated by Bai Yuchan. Inner Secrets of Talisman Writing One stroke is distinct without beginning or end; this is the profound principle of the Thunder. If one can mindfully not fear me, the ten thousand spirits of the Three Realms will all bow. Clench both hands firmly, gaze into the cauldron, click the teeth three times, align the body in the four directions, metal rests and wood moves, the water, fire, earth, and thunder chariots slowly ascend to the Jade Realm. Fire in emptiness is bright; fire blazing ascends. Water flowing is loud; water freezing becomes ice. This is the marvel of water and fire acting as thunder. The Master says: For all practices, one must prepare an incense table, burn incense facing south, sit cross-legged, stabilize the breath and concentrate the spirit, clench both hands in the thunder mudra, close the eyes and settle the mind. Then look down with both eyes at the kidneys, tongue against the upper palate. Wait until the qi is settled and the spirit is concentrated, the soul is at peace and the po is secure. See my heart like the sun, as large as a wheel, its red light brilliantly shining, nine rays intersecting, as if there are three characters "OOO" shining with golden light. Inhale them once into the heart palace. See the heart shaped like a lotus, the three characters within the sun lotus. Slightly feel the Jade Nectar water generating, then swallow it down, injecting it into the heart palace. Naturally, like true crystal jade dew emerging from within the lotus, it descends and drips into the mysterious mansion, like the light of the sun and moon, illuminating the five viscera. True water drips down, rustling with sound. Water and fire stimulate each other, naturally fire ignites and wind rises. Then circulate it, surging up from the three gates, entering the root of the ancestral qi in the central palace. Use the will to lift it, penetrating up the twelve jade towers, passing through the firm wind and vast qi, directly into the eight palaces, the gate of all wonders. The sun and moon reflect each other, the whole body is hot, golden light shines brightly, rays bursting in all directions; this is the Golden Pellet. Circulate it again and gather it into the central palace, swallow saliva slightly and inhale qi, visualizing it stored in the ancestral qi cavity, filling the central palace, eternally guarding the Yellow Court, golden light bursting and shining, inside and out completely illuminated. Every day at the hours of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You, circulate it once. By practicing like this, and obtaining the guidance of an enlightened master, the profound mysteries can gradually be achieved. Keep it secret and do not neglect it. The above was narrated by Zhenren Shangguan, annotated by Bai Yuchan. Method of Shifting the Spirit to Return to the Sea Zi and Wu do not shift; Yin and Yang are divided into two phrases. When taking the time, approach the Dipper's handle; when Yin reaches its extreme, Yang is born again. Every time you sit in meditation, after three hundred breaths, visualize the navel wheel as the midst of the Ming Sea, with a True Man like the image of a Heavenly Venerable, sitting upright in the midst of the Ming Sea. The Essentials of the Three Gates Narrated by Wei Boyang Boyang asked Lord Hongmeng: "May I hear the essentials of the Three Gates?" He replied: "What do you consider the Three Gates?" Boyang replied: "The Niwan spirit chamber in the brain is the upper gate, the Crimson Palace in the heart is the middle gate, and the Weilü below is the lower gate." Lord Hongmeng said: "No." Boyang bowed again and asked to be taught. The Lord said: "Making the nature not change into emotion is the first gate; emotion not changing into essence is the second gate; the Yang fire within the essence not leaking is the third gate. Raise the Xun wind, drum the bellows, move the six fu organs, gather the nine earths, ignite fire within water, and flow metal within fire. The transformation of the three wonders of Metal, Water, and Fire refines the central palace into the Yellow Court, gathering all existences to return to the One Spirit." Oral Formula for Talisman Writing Narrated by Mo Yueding For all major prayers and talisman writing, one must first practice sitting meditation two or three days in advance. On the day the talisman is completed, enter the room to sit in meditation, practice the circulation, chant mantras for empowerment, and seek a response. The marvel lies entirely in this one talisman taking effect; it cannot be done carelessly or simplified. For ordinary talisman writing, one only needs to concentrate the spirit and stabilize the breath, chant the Golden Light Mantra and the Sound Character Mantra, visualize golden light filling the room, and ten thousand spirits standing in array. Sweep the eyes around once, circulate the divine light onto the paper, forming the shape of the Thunder God. The left hand forms the thunder mudra, the right hand holds the brush, and with one breath of courageous effort, swiftly brush the shape. Speed and agility are the marvels. There is no scattering mantra, only the brush technique. Once written, one might vaguely see the Thunder God with a posture ready to fly, golden light filling the paper. Place the tongue against the upper palate, tightly close the internal and external qi of the whole body, and press down the Taixuan ancestral qi. When closed to the extreme, feeling the qi in the body stifled with nowhere to contain it, make a "xi" sound to lift it, and a "yue" sound to strike the divine light from both eyes into the talisman with both mudras. Visualize the Thunder God riding the golden light and soaring, departing without waiting for burning. Use the spirit to circulate the divine, use qi to merge with the form; the response is but an instant.   There is no need to write a specific god's name in the talisman. Once you fix the name of a specific divine general, then this one talisman can only be used as one divine general. If the ritual master simply focuses his mind on the ten thousand spirits, the ten thousand spirits will naturally manifest their efficacy. One talisman can transform into ten thousand efficacious talismans, and one spirit can transform into ten thousand efficacious spirits. The Dao generates one, one generates two, two generates three, and three generates all things. Like the Heavenly Venerables of the ten directions, their number is like sand and dust, transforming their forms across the ten directions to universally save heavenly beings and humans. One must not be stifled in the chest; one should open and clear the mind's will to practice it. After writing, practice the circulation method again. At midnight under the stars, with a censer and a bowl of water, summon, pray, sacrifice, and dispatch them.   The talisman's shape must be heroic and courageous, concentrating essence and focusing the spirit., let the spirit soar and write it. The form resembles a bat, its wings parted in an eight-character shape. The brush strength must be vigorous; if the brush strength is weak, the magical power will be weak. Swift as a flying bird, completed in a single sweep. Morning and evening, moving the brush and grinding the ink, tracing the shapes, opening the eyes it looks vividly alive; silently communing with the spirit, naturally it seems to be all around. It cannot be guessed or measured; write it in a single stroke, and do not fill it in again. The moistness, dryness, richness, and paleness must be driven by the spirit in that moment, with majestic momentum, without giving rise to a single stray thought, without allowing a moment's interruption. My mind moves together with the brush, my qi turns together with the incantation. In a trance, it is as if I see the Thunder God running through the clouds and mist, commanding the winds and thunder, with all gods heeding the orders. If applied in this way, there will not be a single failure in ten thousand attempts. If it is not so, it is simply because one cannot focus the mind and spirit to achieve the wondrous resonance. Incantations, qi, and hand seals are but minor matters; how could the Dao lie only in this? How could the magic lie only in this?   Discourse on the Pivot of the Bellows The Daoist scripture says: "Between heaven and earth, is it not like a bellows? Empty but inexhaustible, moving and ever-producing." This is the pivot of creation. The bellows is like my abdomen. The flute is like my mouth and nose. "Empty but inexhaustible" refers to the pre-celestial primordial ancestral qi. In Buddhism it is called the Wisdom Sun, the Precious Lamp, the Mani Pearl; in Confucianism it is called the vast, resolute qi; in Zen it is called the place to settle body and establish life; in Daoism it is called the Golden Elixir. In reality, they are one. It is also called the Spirit Chamber and the Heavenly Valley, also called the Root of Heaven and Earth, the Ancestor of all qi, the Stalk of the Taiji. It is vast and boundless, trance-like and indistinct, without inside or outside, without location or attachment, and without surroundings. "Moving and ever-producing" means that when the bellows moves, the flute naturally sounds.   Whenever practicing, one should first quiet the mind and eliminate thoughts, like an infant before it becomes a child; this is the true self. As if in the womb, untainted by a single speck of dust, establishing not a single dharma; this is the pre-celestial realm. Settle into stillness according to the method. After being in this stillness for a long time, then expand the abdomen and empty the body, look at the navel with both eyes, press the tongue root firmly, tuck the chin and focus on the Yongquan point. The forces of creation will naturally penetrate the Weilv point and burst through the Yellow River. Once it reaches the middle pass, fiercely lift the handle of the Dipper, and you will feel both eyes flashing lightning like a raging fire, the whole body feeling light and elevated as if in the Great Void; this is the true realm.   I, the foolish one, yesterday received the transmission of talisman formulas, incantations, and secret characters from my ordination master, Mr. Zou, the Iron Wall. Blocking the Heavenly River, overturning the Dipper's handle, drawing water from the vast ocean, moving the Nine Provinces, using Qian to mend Kun, using Li to block Kan. Opening the eyes and looking up is Pi; closing the eyes and looking down is Tai. I once knew myself to be ignorant; initially, my understanding did not align with the profound principles, and not a single invocation worked. Later, I received instruction from Perfected Yang, the Lame One of Xunyang, who pointed out the key to the talismans and explained these principles, making me wake up as if from a drunken stupor, and awaken as if from a foolish daze. All previous efforts were but false names. In truth, a single word—if one does not know the shortcut, forcing names upon it as heterodoxy—is this not absurd? But speaking of this pre-celestial creation, how could one not know that the pre-celestial is the substance and the post-celestial is the function? The formula says: Expand the abdomen, arch the back, eyes aligned with the navel, just like an infant in the womb. Gather the body and soar straight beyond the azure sky; if a single thought goes astray, do not proceed. Trample and overturn the Dipper's handle, the sky turns dark; reverse the Yellow River, and snow-white waves fly. If you grasp these pivotal mechanisms, your creation will naturally rival that of Heaven. Mo Dongyi opened the flame and bowed his head to Yuchan, saying: Feet tread the Thunder Gate, turning the earth's axis; hand holds the Dipper's handle, drawing the Heavenly River. I once wrote a poem: A clap of thunder before and behind the mountain, shaking the universe, the bellows open. The old dragon at the bottom of the pool cannot sleep, and with a crash, it flies up to the Ninth Heaven.   Supplementary Matters Beyond the Magic To raise wind, remove the top of a beehive; it must be sought by yourself. Do not buy it from an apothecary. Use this to scent a censer, and burn it facing the direction of the Wind Earl. To stop wind, crush the beehive and bury it in the earth in the direction of the Wind Earl.   To raise clouds and mist, hide the sunlight and conceal the moon, and use well water to mix with the soot from the bottom of a pot to write the talisman. If writing the talisman in a Daoist temple, use soot from a Buddhist temple's pot; if writing it in a layperson's home, use soot from a Daoist temple's pot. To raise thunder, write the Zhen hexagram in ink on an egg, then change it to the character for thunder. Recite the thunder-raising incantation and paint it black. Facing the direction of the Thunder Duke, boil water in a small pot until it is rolling, then briefly dip the egg in cold water, and immediately throw it into the boiling water. With this sudden shock, the egg will instantly burst, and the sound of thunder and the Thunder God will arrive at once. Hold the egg tightly in your hands and rub it continuously, reciting the thunder-raising incantation, internally circulating water and fire to create friction, and throw it to the ground; the sound of thunder will be endless.   To raise lightning, take a piece of white paper, find a red-footed centipede on the fifth day of the fifth month, grind it alive to mix with pigment, and draw a golden-eyed, double-winged flying centipede, three feet long, fearsomely large, and hide it deeply. When thunderstorms are about to arrive in the summer, place a wooden bench, put the centipede on it, and cover it with a layer of reed mat. Roll a talisman of Envoy Zhang on bamboo membrane and burn it to summon and command it; in an instant, terrifying lightning will strike. Or place the centipede in a tree, or put it in a heterodox temple, on an idol, or under the seat of a heterodox god, and point and direct it to strike there. To summon a dragon to bring rain, use swallow's nest grass, white hyacinth beans, small millet, and rue, bury them in a censer and burn them in the open air. Also throw a swallow into the dragon's pool. To raise lightning, bury natural copper in a censer and burn it facing the direction of the Lightning Mother. To summon dew, bury cicada slough in a censer, and burn it in the open air into the night sky on a quiet night. To pray for clear weather, use realgar and Atractylodes, bury them in a censer and burn them in the open air. To pray for snow, take newly grown bamboo shoots in the summer, wash and store them, and when the time comes, bury them in a censer and burn them in the open air under the moon, burning them together with the Jade Dragon Talisman.   Diagrams and Formulas for Directing the Stars Written by Hou Qinggu First plate: The Great Dipper at the top center. Second plate: The twelve monthly generals and the twenty-eight lunar mansions. Third plate: The twenty-four solar terms and the seventy-two pentads. Fourth plate: The eight gates forming one plate. Fifth: The eight trigrams and twenty-four positions forming one plate. The heavenly text says: Those in the world who fail to obtain true Big Dipper qi do not understand the method of progression. The sun, moon, five planets, four luminaries, and twenty-eight mansions can all be obtained and utilized. The Zhou Bi diagram says: The heavenly plate moves fast, the five planets move slowly, like ants circling a millstone. Viewed this way, the heavenly plate revolves constantly day and night, and the twenty-eight mansions are the longitudinal stars. Revolving together with the Big Dipper, the five planets attach to the heavenly plate and move, turning according to their palaces. For the five planets, four luminaries, and the two palaces of the sun and moon, one must use the detailed ephemeris of the flowing years and the Hundred Middle Classic to annotate which star is in which direction on which day. Then, add the monthly general to the correct hour, move and direct them, and the stars of the entire sky will be clearly visible; the daily and nightly progressions will have absolutely no error. The Yixuan Pian says: "To know which direction the planet Venus is in today, stimulate it with a fire talisman." That star belongs to metal; encountering fire, it will surely react. This swift and wondrous application exhausts this principle. There is no second principle under heaven. Ascending the altar to direct them without understanding the directions—how could this be a trivial matter? If one does not understand this, how can one preside over the matters of the Golden Gate and the arrayed stars?   Discourse on the Big Dipper Narrated by Zhang Yeyu The Three Pure Ones, the supreme sages, are the ancestors of thunder. The ten-tier supreme perfected ones are the root of thunder. The Jade Emperor of Haotian unifies the celestial origin, the beginning of all transformations, and commands the thunder. The Empress of Earth receives heaven's mandate, presides over yin and yang, and regulates the thunder. Thunder relies on the Sun Palace for its majesty, relies on the Moon Palace for its divinity, and relies on the Nine Emperors of the Big Dipper as its pivot and jurisdiction. That which holds the central qi of heaven and earth is thunder. That which manages the central governance of heaven and earth is thunder. That which oversees the prosecution of fortune and disaster, and assists in managing the pivot, is thunder. That which commands yin and yang, and guides the earth's order, is thunder. Tracing the root and origin of thunder, it is solely the Big Dipper that is the master. The Big Dipper is the handle star of heaven. The scripture says: The star before the Dipper's handle is Kui; the star behind the Dipper's handle is Gang. All things cannot be born without Gang, cannot be nurtured without Gang. Discussing the direction of Gang: in the first month, the monthly general Dengming is in Hai, for Yin and Hai combine. In the second month, Hokui is in Xu, for Mao and Xu combine. In the third month, Congkui is in You, for Chen and You combine. In the fourth month, Songshen is in Shen, for Si and Shen combine. In the fifth month, Xiaoji is in Wei, for Wu and Wei combine. In the sixth month, Shengxian is in Wu, for Wei and Wu combine. In the seventh month, Taiyi is in Si, for Shen and Si combine. In the eighth month, Tiangang is in Chen, for You and Chen combine. In the ninth month, Taichong is in Mao, for Xu and Mao combine. In the tenth month, Gongcao is in Yin, for Hai and Yin combine. In the eleventh month, Daji is in Chou, for Zi and Chou combine. In the twelfth month, Shenhou is in Zi, for Chou and Zi combine. Add the monthly general to the correct hour to find the direction of Gang; the direction will be without error. Month after month, the general is added to Xu; hour after hour, one sees Pojun. The position before Pojun is where one is permitted to identify the Gang star. Carefully note the Wuwei Jing, which says: The Big Dipper points to the ground at Xu hour every night before the central qi. The monthly establishment shifts one celestial sign per hour, revolving in a cycle. All actions should follow behind the Gang, and not clash with it from the front. This is a reverse violation, and the violator will suffer misfortune. Furthermore, discussing the establishments, breaches, Kui, and Gang: In the first month, the establishment is Yin, Shen is the breach, Si is Gang, and Hai is Kui. In the second month, the establishment is Mao, You is the breach, Zi is Gang, and Wu is Kui. In the third month, the establishment is Chen, Xu is the breach, Wei is Gang, and Chou is Kui. In the fourth month, the establishment is Si, Hai is the breach, Yin is Gang, and Shen is Kui. In the fifth month, the establishment is Wu, Zi is the breach, You is Gang, and Mao is Kui. In the sixth month, the establishment is Wei, Chou is the breach, Chen is Gang, and Xu is Kui. In the seventh month, the establishment is Shen, Yin is the breach, Hai is Gang, and Si is Kui. In the eighth month, the establishment is You, Mao is the breach, Wu is Gang, and Zi is Kui. In the ninth month, the establishment is Xu, Chen is the breach, Chou is Gang, and Wei is Kui. In the tenth month, the establishment is Hai, Si is the breach, Shen is Gang, and Yin is Kui. In the eleventh month, the establishment is Zi, Wu is the breach, Mao is Gang, and You is Kui. In the twelfth month, the establishment is Chou, Wei is the breach, Xu isGang is Chen as the chief. This is the Yin-Yang masters' discourse on the inauspiciousness of the four clashes. The Legalist masters hold the command of thunder and lightning, grasp the pivot of Heaven and Earth, and discuss obtaining the true and upright Qi of Tiangang. The position of Tiangang is at Chen, like the unpredictable transformations of the dragon. The earthly branch Chen belongs to the dragon; when the Five Elements reach Chen, all undergo transformation. For example, Jia and Ji reaching Chen transform into Earth; Yi and Geng reaching Chen transform into Metal; Bing and Xin reaching Chen transform into Water; Ding and Ren reaching Chen transform into Wood; Wu and Gui reaching Chen transform into Fire. The dragon resides in the Chen position, its appearance and disappearance unpredictable, its myriad transformations wondrous beyond measure. Therefore, Tiangang is fixed in position, residing squarely at Chen.   Humans are the spirit of all things and also possess transformations, secretly corresponding to Chen. Whether in destitution or success, bending or stretching, all stem from a person's Five Elements, belonging to the original destiny, called Yuanchen. Its meaning is profound. For instance, the Sun is at Mao, the Moon is at You; Mao and You clash, so the Sun and Moon divide day and night of Heaven and Earth. For instance, Tiangang is at Chen, He Kui is at Xu; Chen and Xu clash, so Water and Fire divide Yin and Yang of Heaven and Earth. Tiangang belongs to Fire; the direction it points to is the Gate of Thunder. He Kui belongs to Water; the direction of its direct clash is the Door of Rain, also called the Door of Earth. When breaking the earth to summon thunder, one should act and operate from the direction of Tiangang's direct clash. If summoning and employing thunder spirits, one simply issues commands from the direction pointed to by the light of Tiangang. Clashing brings movement; movement brings lightning, thunder, and thunderbolts. The mnemonic verse says: "Where Tiangang points, there is thunder and lightning; immediately employ the Six Ding there. If one understands the subtle secret within, truly know that creation is born in the palm." The wonder of the Six Ding is exactly where the light of Tiangang points. The direction of Tiangang's light is measured by adding the Twenty-Eight Mansions: Kang brings thunder, Ji brings wind, Bi and Bo bring rain, Yi brings lightning, and Zhen brings clouds. For thunder, Mao brings clear skies, Xu brings clouds, and Wei brings snow. Furthermore, if one can pace the Ji star, Luo Zao Huo, and various sha, the Golden Tiger Great Sha, and the flowing fire evil stars, and also find the hidden metal and dormant breaks, gathering them all here, then the five matters can be awaited immediately. Thunder is the essence of Qian, and the thunderbolt is the essence of Kun. Qian is the father of thunder, and Kun is the mother of thunder. Encountering Yang it is born, encountering Yin it lies dormant, encountering harmony it generates all things, and encountering shock and peeling it sounds forth. Alas. Some know the direction of Tiangang but not the principle of Tiangang; some know the Tiangang in the sky but not the Tiangang within the body; some know the Zhonghuang within the body but not the Zhonghuang in the sky. The Tiangang in the sky is Yang essence, true earth, and the true Yang of Heaven. Residing in the Heaven within Heaven, it is the Tiangang star, actually named the Zhonghuang Star, transforming at Chen. The Tiangang within the body is also Yang essence and true earth. In internal alchemy it is the medicine, the Yellow Woman. The Dan Tian is the Yellow Court; residing in the center of the body, it is the Tiangang Qi, actually named Zhonghuang Qi, transforming in the heart. This orifice is no ordinary orifice; the center of the center is yet another center. The Yellow Qi of the one center is one's own Tiangang. The spirit that directs the Qi of the Yellow Center is the Yellow Spirit, which is the spirit of the Tiangang Qi. One White, Two Black, Three Jade, Four Green, Five Yellow, Six White, Seven Red, Eight White, Nine Purple—this is the Yellow Qi at the exact center of Zi, Wu, Mao, and You, which is the Tiangang Qi, the Qi of the Jade Emperor. The Golden Light Mantra says: "The central Yellow Qi, transformed and born by the Jade Emperor." This statement is very clear. Ears, eyes, mouth, nose, tongue; spirit, essence, soul,魄, and intent gather towards the central palace, transforming into innate Qi. This is the Zhonghuang Qi. It is the Tiangang Qi within our bodies. Practitioners who introspect the Five Aggregates consolidate Qi and refine spirit, gather the corpse and hun-po, keep inner thoughts from exiting and outer thoughts from entering, so that spirit and Qi do not scatter, merging with the hundred spirits. Those who externally observe the myriad spirits, through their usual cultivation practice, embody it in writing talismans, chanting mantras, pinching mudras, and pacing the Tiangang, to command myriad spirits. Then the myriad spirits obey orders, none daring to be disrespectful, retribution echoing like a valley's response to a sound, arising naturally. It lies only in purifying oneself, fasting the heart with utmost sincerity, to move Heaven and Earth and affect ghosts and spirits. My Yang essence merges with the Yang essence of Heaven and Earth; Yang essence is Tiangang. My Yang essence: Heaven generates one as Water, Earth generates two as Fire; Water and Fire are born in the left and right kidneys, the ancestral Qi of the Golden Light. It penetrates upward from the spine to the Shuo bone; the Shuo bone is the occipital bone behind the ears. The two paths of kidney light go up from the spine to the Shuo bone, directly connecting to both eyes, which is the pupil's essence. These two things are like sword edges, piercing through ten thousand miles without obstruction, brighter than the Sun and Moon in the sky. Returning to the Yellow Court, it is the innate Yang essence. Among the three souls, this is the Taiguang. Circulating my Yang essence, preserving my Yang spirit, going straight up to communicate with Heaven. Following the direction pointed to by Tiangang, circulating spirit and merging Qi, this is the wondrous Dao. The scripture says: "The Thunder City has twelve gates, all following where the Tiangang star points." When the Tiangang star points to Chou, its body is at Wei. The pointed direction is auspicious; the located direction is inauspicious. The other positions are all like this. Looking up with gratitude to the Heavenly Venerable's vast compassion, proclaiming the direct shortcut, clear and plain, the learner must thoroughly investigate its principles, trace its source, and study its beginnings, so as to attain deep mastery of the Dao.   The fixed position of Tiangang lies only at the center of Heaven. Because the Heavenly Venerable does not easily fully reveal the heavenly mechanisms, he makes learners think deeply and research subtly, exhausting principles and fulfilling their nature, wishing them to attain it themselves. Those who attain it themselves truly receive the compassionate teaching grace of the Heavenly Venerable within the profound void. When the Tiangang star points to Chou, its body is at Wei. It is not that its body is at Wei; actually, throughout the three hundred and sixty days of the year and the twelve hours of a day, the body of Tiangang is only at the center of Heaven. When Tiangang Qi points to Chou, its body stands at the center of Heaven, facing Chou with its back to Wei, flowing Tiangang light to the Chou position. When Tiangang Qi points to Wei, its body stands facing Wei with its back to Chou, flowing Tiangang light to the Wei position. The other positions are all like this. Therefore, in spring Tiangang faces east with its back to the west, its Qi is green; in summer it faces south with its back to the north, its Qi is red; in autumn it faces west with its back to the east, its Qi is white; in winter it faces north with its back to the south, its Qi is dark. This is the theory that the thunder and lightning of the four seasons follow the prosperous direction and prosperous Qi of Tiangang. For example, in the first month Dengming, under the general is the Jinliang spirit; in the second month He Kui, under the general is the Tiandu spirit; in the third month Congkui, under the general is the Yumi spirit; in the fourth month Chuansong, under it is the Tianma spirit; in the fifth month Xiaoji, under it is the Tianjing spirit; in the sixth month Shengxian, under it is the Hua'e spirit; in the seventh month Taiyi, under it is the Tianche spirit; in the eighth month Tiangang is at Chen, under it is the Tianshu spirit; in the ninth month Taichong, under it is the Sanguang spirit; in the tenth month Gongcao, under it is the Tianliang spirit; in the eleventh month Daji, under it is the Ziwei spirit; in the twelfth month Shenhou, under it is the Xuanshu spirit. The Master says: After obtaining the Tiangang Qi, then call upon the spirit generals of the twelve months. The generals and spirits transform without fixed direction, their divine power unfathomable, reaching up to the heart of Heaven, pushing down to the geography of Earth, and transforming human relations in the middle; nothing in the world is unobserved. People today only know there is the Tiangang general, but they do not know there are spirits below. This is what is meant by "the spirit makes the general efficacious; without the general, the spirit does not move; without the spirit, the general does not act." Where Tiangang points rotates day and night. Just like the two plates: the top first layer is the Heaven Plate, called the Imperial Court, which is the Purple Forbidden Enclosure. One must carve the Dipper image and rotate it. This is the Heaven within Heaven, the central Dipper Great Chief. The Dipper image points to the twelve palaces of the Earth Plate according to the sun, moon, and time; its body never wanders across the Earth Plate. Since Tiangang resides only in the Heaven within Heaven, for all matters, seeking auspiciousness and avoiding inauspiciousness, one proceeds following the direction of Tiangang, with nothing to fear. Spoken thus, it is beyond doubt that the body of Tiangang resides only in the Heaven within Heaven, with its fixed position at the central Chen. When a Dharma Master absorbs Tiangang Qi, for instance, if the Tiangang light is fixed at Mao, it is as if Tiangang stands at the center of Heaven, facing Mao with its back to You; the Dharma Master should then stand firmly in the east facing west, where the pointed direction is auspicious. Before the eyes, the Eight Trigrams are arrayed; I look inward to the central palace of my body, standing opposite the Tiangang star, looking up to meet and absorb it. The other directions are all similar. If summoning and employing myriad spirits towards the direction of Tiangang, the Dharma Master should follow where Tiangang stands, facing Mao with his back to You, to practice. This is because the myriad thunder spirits, Ding and Jia spirit generals, are all in the direction of Tiangang. At this time, the Dharma Master visualizes Tiangang in the empty space above his head; the Dharma Master stands below Tiangang, directing and employing Tiangang, which is also directing from above. If speaking of breaking the earth to summon thunder, the Door of Earth is the direction of He Kui, and the Gate of Thunder is the direction of Tiangang. Thunder spirits rise from the Door of Earth and descend from the Gate of Thunder, which means descending from the golden fire light in the direction of Tiangang. One must first transform one's spirit into the Jade Emperor, then chant: "Jin zha, Jin zha, great power seizes!" Within the golden light above the Jade Emperor's head, the character <言月> appears. If transforming the spirit into the Northern Emperor, then chant: "Northern Emperor Qinling, Pulun divine holy spirit transformation seizes!" Within the golden light above the Northern Emperor's head, the character 聻 appears. Connecting with the red fire and golden light above the Tiangang star's head, the character 炓 appears within the sun's wheel. The Tiangang Mantra: "Heavenly Emperor, Shakra Emperor." The Heavenly Emperor is the Haotian Jade Emperor; the Shakra Emperor is the North Pole Great Emperor. The Golden Light Mantra says: "Shakra Emperor's hidden rhyme, Xuanming Zi Qin," which is correct. The so-called Tai Shi Yu Long Teng Sheng Heaven, and what Buddhists call Shakra, are unrelated here. "Wearing Tiangang" is not about physically wearing it. "How can the evil Qi of the five directions not hide?" does not refer to the evil ghosts of the five directions. "With one inhalation of flying light, myriad ghosts perish," is not about hiding. <口栗><口栗> Feng Zheng Jian Om Hum Gunda Lili Svaha. In leap months, add the word Om at the beginning when chanting. The Tiangang Mudra: First, insert the little finger from the inside of the ring finger over the back of the middle finger. Use the index finger to hook the little finger tip. The ring finger bends over the back of the little finger. Straighten the middle finger. Use the thumb to pinch the sha pattern to form the mudra. It is also named the Tianguan Mudra, or the Mountain Character Mudra. Furthermore, there is the Three-Five Flying Step Tiangang, divided into Yin and Yang setups. Winter Solstice, Beginning of Spring, Spring Equinox, and Beginning of Summer are the Yang setup: rotate right one-seven-four, arrange the twelve hours in reverse, arrange the nine Tiangang stars in forward order, advancing five to find the direction of Tiangang. Summer Solstice, Beginning of Autumn, Autumn Equinox, and Beginning of Winter are the Yin setup: rotate left nine-three-six, arrange the twelve hours in forward order, arrange the nine stars in reverse, retreating five to find the direction of Tiangang. This is the wondrous application of the Jade Purity Upper Dao and the Three-Five Flying Step.Furthermore, regarding the Six Qi and the Heavenly Dipper, The Tanlang Great Star is Yang; its Qi is black, capable of striking evil and sweeping away wickedness. The Jumen Origin Star is Yin; its Qi is white, capable of dispelling evil and capturing the deceased. The Lucun True Star is Sha; its Qi is red, capable of assisting Yin and benefiting the declining. The Wenqu Linking Star is Prosperity; its Qi is yellow, capable of stopping pain and correcting things. The Pojun Barrier Star is Stability; its Qi is crimson, capable of bringing the dead back to life. The Wuqu Record Star is Life; its Qi is green, capable of awing and controlling Heaven and Earth, and holding judgment over life and death. Pojun in reverse reaches Lianzhen, the Dipper Star, which makes three. Tanlang in sequence reaches Lianzhen, which makes five. Lianzhen is the Dipper Star. Dividing Yin and Yang with intersecting days, this is the marvel of three and five. Lianzhen inherently has no Qi; it is the Qi of the six stars that circulates and shines down. The seven stars in the sky, the seven stars on the face, and the seven stars in the heart, the three combining into one, matched with robes and snapping fingers, the marvel lies within. Alas. Without cultivating morality and precepts, without accumulating quietude and stillness, one wishes to transform one's spirit into the Jade Emperor, the Northern Emperor, or the Supreme True Heavenly Master. Without hiding the soul and gathering the魄, one wishes to pace the Dipper. Without merging spirit with spirit, without merging Qi with Qi, without borrowing the true light of the Supreme Emperor, without relying on the mighty power of the Heavenly True, to presumptuously seize the righteous Qi of the Heavenly Dipper is exceedingly difficult. Exceedingly difficult. Some directly face the direction, stand on the spot and chant spells, boasting: "Raise your head to the Heavenly Dipper," or call the Heavenly Dipper's nickname, waiting for the Heavenly Dipper to turn its head to hastily seize it, not knowing what they are raising their heads to seize. Waiting for the Heavenly Dipper to turn its head to seize it, what does this mean? How dare I say they are deeply mistaken? May the wise ones of the world look upon this and take heed. Inner Practice of Refining Form the Thunder Mudra with both hands and press them on the knees, sit flat with legs hanging down, stabilize the breath and quiet the mind. Circulate the ancestral Qi of the central yellow orifice to rise to the crown of the head, flow into the heart palace, and visualize it blooming like a lotus. Once the heart orifice opens, the orifices of the five Zang and six Fu organs all open, and the eight gates on the top of the head also open. Visualize the righteous Qi of the sun, moon, five stars, Southern Dipper, Northern Dipper, and the Twenty-Eight Mansions' Yaoguang, the Brahma Qi of the Thirty-Two Heavens, the true life Qi of the Ten Directions, and the prosperous Qi of the Five Thunders of the Five Directions, like clouds and mist, flowing into the five Zang organs of the body, blossoming throughout the body, the four elements and hundred bones, hair follicles and pores, all emitting bright light, intersecting inside and out, above and below. Once this is done, concentrate the spirit and still the mind for a moment. With both Thunder Mudras pressing on the knees, make hand gestures to shake, grit the teeth and clench the jaw, shake the head, and forcefully shrug to circulate the windlass, prompting the internal and external Qi of the whole body to rise. Starting from both feet, gather the Qi of the four elements and hundred bones, hair follicles and pores, and the internal and external Qi of the five Zang and six Fu organs, all rising from bottom to top with the hand gestures, responding inside and out, shooting straight out of the crown. From the Niwan palace to the Mingtang, it drops into the mouth, swallowed back into the central yellow, like a pill bead in the central yellow palace. Sometimes this induces profuse sweating all over the body; then remain completely motionless, condense and still the spirit and Qi, with inner thoughts not going out and outer thoughts not entering, in a state of continuous, seemingly existing awareness. Inner Formula for Universally Summoning Ten Thousand Spirits For any great prayer, to summon the ten thousand spirits of the Three Realms and all divine generals within the Five Thunders and various large and small methods, first sit quietly in a secret room, visualize the spirit, and circulate the ancestral Qi starting from the head of the Five Phases corresponding to the current season. For example, in spring, the ancestral Qi first generates from Wood, then circulates to generate Fire, then circulates to generate Earth, then circulates to generate Metal, then circulates to generate Water. One Qi generates another, mutually containing each other, forming a mass of golden light, returning to the Yellow Court, pressing down, and lifting it up with the sound <口虩> from the Weilü. It passes through the double gates of the Jiaji, rises to the Niwan at the back of the brain, passes through the Mingtang, is focused by both eyes, and shouted out with the sound <言月>. At this time, hold the breath, exert force to shake, and all hair follicles and pores of the body burst out with ten thousand rays of golden light. The sun, moon, and stars in the sky all transform into ten thousand rays of golden light, falling like rain. The earth cracks open, firelight bursts out with fierce flames, and in an instant, everything suddenly turns dark and chaotic. Hearing the roar of thunder, both Thunder Mudras are released, and with a clap of thunder, the chaos splits open. Ten thousand spirits all appear within the golden light; form an alliance with them and agree on a time to act. Then gradually gather them back, inhaling them into the heart and lungs, and absorbing them into the Yellow Court. Shortly after, when ascending the altar to summon the generals, one only needs to circulate a breath of Qi from the Yellow Court, no need for further solemnities. Formula for Raising the Southeast Wind Following the method, visualize and circulate the effect, returning to the Yellow Court, going straight up to the Fengchi, passing through the left ear, making a "xu" sound like a gentle wind, and assisting to blow it out. As soon as you feel the wind emerging, close both eyes, press the left nostril with the left Thunder Mudra, press the left ear with the right Thunder Mudra, allowing the wind to only exit from the right ear. Formula for Raising the Northwest Wind Following the method, visualize and circulate the effect, returning to the Yellow Court, going straight up to the Fengchi, passing through the right ear, making a "xu" sound like a gentle wind, and assisting to blow it out. As soon as you feel the wind emerging, close both eyes, press the right nostril with the right Thunder Mudra, press the right ear with the left Thunder Mudra, allowing the wind to only exit from the right ear. Formula for Raising Clouds Following the method, visualize and circulate the effect, returning to the Yellow Court, then circulate the dense, dark, and cold Yin Qi from the Yongquan acupoint at the soles of both feet, rushing up to the Kidney palace, surging and transforming into black clouds, also returning to the Yellow Court, coiling and not dispersing. Next, visualize clouds emerging from the Yellow Court, like clouds rising from mountains and rivers, going straight up and surging out vigorously from the nostrils. As soon as you feel the clouds are about to emerge, close both eyes, block both ears with the Thunder Mudras of the left and right hands, make a "hu" sound with the mouth, do not let the wind disperse the cloud Qi, and only allow the clouds to exit from the nostrils. Formula for Raising Thunder Form Thunder Mudras with both hands, cross the waist and press against the Kidney hall. Following the method, visualize and circulate the effect, intermingling in the Yellow Court, transforming into wind, clouds, thunder, rain, and lightning, all gathered in the center. With Yang sounds and Yin tones, press the Kidney hall on the left and right seven times each, and lift it up with the sound <口虩>. With both Thunder Mudras, follow the internal Qi and pull up to both sides of the ears. Again, as before, press the ears left and right seven times each. Circulate the thunder from the Niwan through the Mingtang, shout it out with the sound <言月>, and forcefully clap both Mudras once. As soon as you feel the thunder is about to emerge, the heart fire flashes out through the eyes as lightning. As soon as you feel the lightning emerge, transform your body into a dragon shape, the water bowl on the table into a river, circulate the divine water of the Huachi, take a sip of water from the bowl, and spray it in all four directions, just like a dragon formation. This signifies taking water from rivers to transform and make rain. Formula for Praying for Rain First, visualize the spirit, circulate the ancestral Qi to return to the Liver palace for nine cycles, making the Wood Qi prosperous. Circulate it to the Jiang palace to generate Heart Fire for three cycles, making the Fire prosperous. First make Yang reach its extreme so that Yin may be generated. Then use this Fire to generate Earth, Earth to generate Metal, Metal to generate Water, for seven cycles, ensuring Water becomes prosperous. Then use this Water to overcome Fire for five cycles. Overcome until the Fire is completely extinguished, with absolutely no Fire Qi left; the Qi of the Five Phases all transforms into Water. Return to the Yellow Court, rise up to the Fengchi, and pass out through both ears, becoming wind. Rise up to the mountains, pass out through the Shenlu, becoming clouds. Using the Thunder Mudra effect, rise up to the crown, inhale and shout it out, becoming thunder. Rise up to the Niwan, enter the Huachi, circulate the divine water and spray it out, becoming rain. Rise up to the Jiang palace, flash the eyes to emit it, becoming lightning. All five phenomena are transformed from a single effect within the Yellow Court. Formula for Praying for Clear Weather First, visualize the spirit, circulate the ancestral Qi to return to the Lungs for seven cycles, making the Water prosperous. First make Yin reach its extreme so that Yang may be generated. Then use this Water to generate Wood, Wood to generate Fire, Fire to generate Earth, Earth to overcome Water, for twelve cycles. Overcome until the Water is completely dried up, with absolutely no Water Qi left. Since Kan Water is dried up, Li Fire naturally generates flames. The Qi of the Five Phases all transforms into Fire, returning to the Yellow Court, rising up to the Fengchi, passing out through the right ear as a northwest wind. The eight gates on the top of the head all open, circulating great flames to scorch Heaven and Earth, blowing away the dark haze, and exhaling Heart Qi to assist it. Use the nose to gather the cloud Qi from the sky, inhale it back into the Yellow Court, transforming it into golden light, like the meaning of mountains hiding clouds. Formula for Praying for Snow It is generally the same as praying for rain, but the Qi of the Five Phases must all transform into Water, returning to the Yellow Court, brewing and condensing into snow, rising up to the Fengchi, passing out through the left ear as a northeast wind. Next, rise up to the mountains, passing out through the nose as dense clouds. Next, rise up to the Niwan, enter the Huachi, circulate the divine water, transform oneself into the Spirit Turtle Snow-Spraying Great Deity, visualize the offering table transforming into a blue sky, the water bowl transforming into the Milky Way condensing snow, take a sip of water and spray it towards the moon, transforming into snowflakes flying and falling, red clouds densely covering the sky, the north wind biting cold, like the Jade Dragon in the sky making snow. Talisman of the Winged Fire Snake for Praying for Clear Weather For the talisman on the right, condense and still the spirit and Qi, use the Heavenly Eye to circulate golden light, and along with the right hand Sword Mudra, write it inside a water bowl, and place it in the rain. Alternatively, use cloth threads shaped like a snake, wrap them and place them in a bowl, which also works. Silently chant the spell: I respectfully invite the Red Sheep and Red Pig, the Great Dao Li Laojun, moving immortals to carry water, and jade maidens to hold nectar, also banning the thirty-six oxen, banning the thirty-six dragons, banning river water to be captured, banning well water to dry up, and banning the sky to be quiet and clouds to disperse. I obey the decree to lock away evil spirits. Formula for Beheading, Investigating, Praying, Burying Haze, and Drought Demons Between Heaven and Earth, there are two ghosts: the drought demon and the haze demon, which cause droughts and floods. The drought demon has a head like a human, a snake's body with wings. Whenever praying for rain, bury its head in Kan (North) ground. The haze demon has a head like a woman, a fox's body with wings. Whenever praying for clear weather, bury its head in Li (South) ground. Both are suppressed using the Qi of the Dipper and Sha. Secret Formula for Ascending the Altar to Block the Sun After burying the drought demon, chant the Wood Wolf spell. Hold the water bowl in your left hand, use the Sword Mudra towards the sun, and use the Heavenly Eye and tongue tip to write the three characters "Gui Mo", "Gui Han", and "Gui Chang" inside the water bowl. Take a sip of water, spray it towards the sun, and then use the sword to pierce the ground under the sun at the Mao (East) position. Its bright light will tremble, meaning clouds will gather and the sun will naturally darken. Flowing Fire Great Sha The Golden Tiger Flowing Fire Great Sha is best utilized on eighteen specific days. Jiazi Cycle: Bingyin day, Jisi day, Gengwu day. Jiaxu Cycle: Wuyin day, Xinsi day, Renwu day. Jiashen Cycle:Dinghai day, Yiyou day. Jiawu decade: Renyin day, Dingyou day, Yiwei day, Bingshen day. Jiachen decade: Dingwei day, Wushen day, Jiyou day. Jiayin decade: Dingsi day, Bingchen day, Guihai day. Furthermore, the four days of Bing, Xin, Wu, and Gui secretly combine; these are the days of the Vanguard. Water moves. 2nd, 4th, 8th months. Wood moves. 3rd, 6th, 9th months. Water and Earth. 1st, 5th, 7th months. Metal moves. 10th, 11th, 12th months. Determining the direction where the White Tiger Flowing Fire falls, following the Kun sequence for Jia and Ji; the Flowing Fire starting sequence follows Yang forward and Yin backward.   On the Stars Governed Metal governs thunder, Wood governs clear skies, Water governs rain, Fire governs lightning, Earth governs thunder and rain. The above sequences require convergence, overcoming, conflict, and activation.   On the Sequence of Fuduan For example, if a Zi day meets the Xu lunar mansion, it is a Fuduan day. The rest follow this pattern. Zi meets Xu, Chou meets Dou, Yin dislikes Shi, Mao meets Nü, Chen meets Ji, Si avoids Fang. Wu meets Jiao, Wei meets Zhang, Shen fears Gui, You meets Zi, Xu meets Wei, Hai meets Bi. First Yuan: Xu Jiazi, Bingyin, Guiyou, Renwu, Jichou, Xinmao, Wuxu, Dingwei, Bingchen, Guihai. The Fire Master says: If it has rained for a long time and a Fuduan day is encountered, it will surely clear up; if it has been clear for a long time and a Fuduan day is encountered, the intention of rain will surely stir.   Approximate Times of Thunder Movement Spring: 1st month Chou hour, 2nd month Yin hour, 3rd month Mao hour. Summer: 4th month Ji hour, 5th month Wu hour, 6th month Wei hour. Autumn: 7th month Shen hour, 8th month You hour, 9th month Xu hour. Winter: 10th month Hai hour. If the 6th month encounters the climate of the 7th solar term, use the Shen hour to conduct affairs. The positions of the above solar terms are where thunder resides.   Method for Determining the Five Elements and Clear/Rainy Weather for the Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansion Days Jiao day: aligns with Metal, overcast. Talismans and dispatches for praying for rain are thrown into the position of the Bi mansion, while those for praying for clear skies are thrown into the position of the Xing mansion.   Explanation and Distinction of the Five Stars The Bi star is the Bi Water <犭俞>, residing in the Qian-Hai position, which is the finless porpoise. When this creature rises, wind and clouds are generated. The Kang star is the Kang Gold Dragon, residing in the Chen-Xun position, which is the dragon. When this creature ascends, clouds are generated. The Wei star is the Wei Fire Tiger, residing in the Gen-Yin position, which is the tiger. When this creature roars, wind is generated. The Yi star is the Yi Fire Snake, residing in the Xun-Si position, which is the snake. When this creature emerges, strange winds are generated. The Zhen star is the Zhen Water Earthworm, residing in the Xun-Si position. Therefore, when the earthworm emerges, rain arrives.   Determining Clear and Rainy Directions using the Five Talismans 1. Five Talismans. Clear. 2. Heavenly Recorder. Overcast and clear. 3. Earth Talisman. Thunder and rain. 4. Earl of Wind. Rain. 5. Duke of Thunder. Wind and clouds combine. 6. Master of Rain. Thunder and rain. 7. Wind and Clouds. Rain and lightning. 8. Tang Talisman. Clear. 9. National Seal. Clear. 10. Heavenly Gate. 11. Earth Axis. Overcast and clear. 12. Six Thieves. Thunder and rain. For example, if today is Wuzi, it means the prosperity of Bing and Wu is in Si; thus, move the Five Talismans to seek determinations in all directions along with Si.   For flying, use the Mulang Spirit Incantation. For concealing, drive from the Fu position and chant the Jade Text. For wandering, use the Zhongshan Spirit Incantation. To strike and govern, dispatch Lord Xin to hear the oath. After using each specific incantation, use the "Inner Chapters of the Heavenly Lad" to burn the talisman and issue the command, and there will be an immediate response. The dispatching talisman must not be used lightly. Practitioners of the Thunder Method who wish to activate wind, clouds, thunder, and rain, seeking a swift and direct approach, need only summon them from the daily thunder direction. Burn the talisman chapter beneath the flying palace of thunder for that day, pace the Big Dipper, and form the hand seals to initiate it. Wind will naturally rise, clouds will gather, thunder will crash, and rain will pour heavily. The four palaces—Flying, Concealing, Wandering, and Governing—are the gathering places of the Thunder Gods. Once the talisman commands arrive, activate them position by position. For all flying palaces, burn the talisman chapter, chant the Mulang Incantation, chant the hidden Sanskrit inner chapters of the Heavenly Lad, and issue the command for dispatch. If there is no response, move to the Concealing Palace. If they cannot be mobilized, move to the Wandering Palace to mobilize them, and there will undoubtedly be a response. If the response is slow, dispatch them at the Grid Palace. If Heaven and Earth are blocked, the Eight Gates are absent, and thunder and rain are difficult to activate, as a last resort, you may withdraw them at the Governing Palace, and there will surely be a response. If the response is slow, dispatch them at the Grid Palace. The Grid Palace is directly opposite the Governing Palace (Zi is opposite Wu); immediately a fierce wind will blow, and thunder and rain will suddenly arrive. The practitioner must quickly turn around at the head of the Big Dipper, hide within the mouth of the Dipper, and rapidly fly the Dipper to cover themselves, thereby avoiding unforeseen disasters.   Monthly Sequence of Passing Mansions: The Dipper Handle Circles the Heavens, the Monthly Mansion Moves in Reverse   1st month, Mao hour on the day before Yushui (Rain Water), the mansion passes to Hai.Start from Dengming. Bing-Xin snake and dog play in the same group, Ding-Ren rabbit flies towards the center. Wu-Gui rat, horse, and pig are all taken, This direction's fierce killing responds to the heavenly mechanism. Flying the *Gang* constellation and holding the hand seal, burn the talisman command; stand and listen to the awe-inspiring power of the Thunder Duke's thunderbolts.   Thunder Path Xu, Hai, Zi, and Chou days: Gen. Wei, Shen, and You days: Xun. Chen, Si, and Wu days: Kun. Chou, Yin, and Mao days: Qian.   The Profound Mystery of the Thunderclap Locate the first month on the Tai Sui (Jupiter), move backwards to the current month. From the current month, start at Hai and move forward, stopping when you encounter Mao. The killing force resides in Mao. The Tai Sui's resting direction is the start; shift the star backwards by four or three constellations for the month. Adding Hai makes it Zi; wherever the text Mao appears, there is the thunder. Do not violate this when building a house; even the Vajra would turn to fine dust if it encounters it. If Liu Gui does not follow this formula, one will surely be struck by thunder and their body shattered. Only when your cultivation is complete and merits fulfilled can you preach the Dao; go seek it in the depths of the purple clouds.   Sudden Fire Entering and Exiting the Eight Gates Zi day: Kan conceals, Li flies, Xun exits. Chou day: Gen conceals, Qian flies, Zhen exits. Yin day: Zhen conceals, Dui flies, Qian exits. Mao day: Li conceals, Zhen flies, Yu exits. Chen day: Li conceals, Kan flies, Qian exits. Si day: Li conceals, Kun flies, Dui exits. Wu day: Li conceals, Qian flies, Zhen exits. Wei day: Kan conceals, Gen flies, Kun exits. Shen day: Dui conceals, Qian flies, Kan exits. You day: Dui conceals, Li flies, Yu exits. Xu day: Qian conceals, Li flies, Xun exits. Hai day: Kan conceals, Zhen flies, Kun exits.   Thunder Arrow Method Zunxing (Honored Star). Zi. Pili (Thunderbolt). Chou. Yuguang (Jade Light). Yin. Shuiliao (Floodwater). Mao. Dianguang (Lightning Flash). Chen. Yanlie (Blazing Fire). Si. Dingjia. Wu. Leigong (Thunder Duke). Wei. Huixia (Auspicious Clouds). Shen. Fengbo (Wind Earl). You. Yushi (Rain Master). Wu. Taiyi. Hai. The starting formula uses Jia's prosperity reaching Yin, moving forward through the twelve palaces, cycling endlessly. Jia-Ji days and hours: Start Yanlie from the position of prosperity. Jia's prosperity reaches Yin, Ding's prosperity resides at Wu. Yi-Geng days and hours: Start Zunwu from the position of prosperity. Yi's prosperity reaches Mao, Geng's prosperity resides at Shen. Bing-Xin days and hours: Start Huixia from the position of prosperity. Bing's prosperity is at Si, Xin's prosperity reaches You. Ding-Ren days and hours: Start Taiyi from the position of prosperity. Ren's prosperity reaches Hai. Wu-Gui days and hours: Start Yuguang from the position of prosperity. Gui's prosperity resides at Zi, Wu's prosperity is at Si.   The Formula Says: Thunder and Thunder Duke combine with Huixia, Rain Master and Taiyi gather flying sand. Pili and Taiyi meet and see each other, Rain Master and Dianguang drive the thunder chariot. On days encountering Dingjia, meet lightning; Taiyi brings sweet rain, washing the dust. Zunxing brings sweet dew, Yuguang arises; Yanlie brings sweet rain, lightning, and clouds. Rain Master and Liujia make the sky dark and gloomy, Wind Earl and Huixia pour down lightning and hail. If one masters the arrow combination method, they will be the foremost immortal. Yanlie and Pili govern thunder and lightning, Dingjia and Rain Master govern darkness, Wind Earl, Pili, and Huixia govern snow and hail.   Annotations to the Five Thunders Heaven-Pan Scripture Taiyi true numbers start clearly; one, three, seven, and nine are the true numbers. When reaching ten, subtract nine to get the killing number; when this number arrives, call upon the thunder. Jia-Ji, Zi-Wu is nine. Yi-Geng, Chou-Wei is eight. Bing-Xin, Yin-Shen is seven. Ding-Ren, Mao-You is six. Wu-Gui, Chen-Xu is Chou. Si-Hai resides uniquely at four. Calculate how many stems there are for the year, month, day, and hour, then use the Golden Tiger Thunder Sha to see which palace and hexagram the day and hour correspond to. Gen. One. Dui. Two. Kan. Three. Li. Four. Zhen. Five. Xun. Six and Seven. Kun. Eight. Qian. Nine. Add up the various numbers, subtract nine for every ten, such as the numbers one, two, one, six, seven, and nine. If it leaves two or four, it is incorrect. Ji and Bi have directions and have days; seek the root according to the day and see what time it is. Official dispatches and documents cannot be absent, yet it also always depends on the breath. The Ji star favors wind, the Bi star favors rain; the Ji star governs heavenly thunder, the Bi star governs water thunder, and also governs dragon thunder. Always deduce and seek which constellation is on duty for the day, then rely on official dispatches and documents, prepare talismans, and summon them for an immediate response.   The Shen Yao distinguishes the Gui and Lou stars, seeking them in order by time and day. When the search reaches the Thunder Golden Tiger, beware of hidden cycles lest your efforts be in vain. The Gui Jin Yang governs divine thunder, the Lou Jin Gou governs Yao thunder, which is the thunder of the local earth spirits. Both follow the legal formulas to find these two stars on duty for the day and hour. If they meet the White Tiger Thunder God in the same palace, the response will be greatly manifested. Be careful to avoid days of hidden cycles, lest your efforts be in vain. The twelve Earthly Branch spirits seek the thunder path, distributed in the directions of Gen, Xun, Qian, and Kun. The Thunder Duke, Wind Earl, and Rain Master spirits, even without divination, will be without error. This method follows the example of the Tang Talisman and State Seal. Even without detailed deduction, there is no error; it is based on the earthly branches residing in Qian, Kun, Gen, and Zhen on that day. Within the profound mechanisms, there is not much complexity; it is laughable that foolish people speak of it themselves. Tiangang is a fierce Sha general, and the White Tiger is a fierce god; how could they be willing to cross over? "Xuan" (profound) is the essence of all mysteries; "Ji" (mechanism) is the pivot of the thunderclap. The key formulas are swift and not numerous, not treating the Dao as having strange meanings. Tiangang is the commanding leader of the Big Dipper, and the White Tiger is a fierce god; both take orders. The star in the south is the fire luminary; when dry fire shifts, it is an omen of misfortune. Gather it in one place to shoot at a direction, and in an instant, heavenly majesty will destroy the demon temple. The Xing Star (Sun Horse) is the manifestation of the southern fire virtue star into a dry fire star, also known as flowing fire; it is a fierce killing star. Following the formula to deduce, if dry fire, Qiluo, Yuebo, Tiangang, the Thunder White Tiger, and the arrow shot are in the same palace, it will rely on this to manifest a response, triggering thunderbolts to burn down demon temples. High on the sword's tip lies the true text; draw water and fire to open the thunder city. Opening the city reveals the Wings mansion degree; it is best to spin this talisman first. Do not toil in the depths of the Jade Pass; where the Emperor Star arrives, you will clap your hands in vain. East, West, South, and North are but empty sounds; Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai yield small echoes. When Chen and Xu combine and Chou and Wei arrive, you will see the thunder killing sound prosper. A few words reveal this heavenly mechanism; a single grasp not filling the hand contains all phenomena. The Jade Pass is the central palace, named the Crimson Palace. When the Thunder White Tiger reaches the central palace, it has entered the pass; do not activate the thunder to act. Also, deduce if the Emperor Star sits on the Thunder Gate or Thunder Path; do not act, fearing it will be difficult to get a response. Would you not invite others to clap their hands and laugh? Just deduce the day added to the hour, first find Tiangang and see which palace division the time falls into. Reaching Zi, Wu, Mao, or You brings spiritual response, suitable for offerings. Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai bring minor responses. Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei bring a responsive echo, and actions will be swift.   Taiyi Yuanjun's Method to Determine the Thunder Gods' Exit, Entry, and Roaming Directions Generally, when praying for rain or clear skies, calling for snow or wind, or driving away evil and punishing wickedness, during the practice, one must know the direction the Thunder Gods roam that day and the place they inspect. Only then can one write talismans, perform rituals, chant incantations, and step the *Gang* constellation to intercept them, resulting in a secret response. Moreover, scholars of later generations, though they know the Daoist methods, may not know the forbidden directions. Whenever they practice, they hastily submit memorials, causing delays in response, thereby wasting their mental and physical effort in vain. Now, the method to intercept the directions of the Thunder Gods' outings is detailed below. Jia days: The Thunder Gods exit Kun and enter Qian. If ascending the altar to perform rituals, stand in the Xun palace and face the Zhen palace to summon them. Still, write the talisman in the direction of the Tai Sui for that year. Or burn the talisman with paper money, offerings, and documents towards the Zhen palace; summon them and there will be an immediate response. Yi days: The Thunder Gods are in the South Pole Fire Refining Palace, inspecting the sins and blessings of the five rebellions and ten wickednesses, managed by the Great Thunder God's Records Bureau. If practicing with documents, the Sudden Fire talisman, the Qingwei talisman, or using talismans from various schools, burn paper money over the censer to summon them, and they will arrive immediately. Bing days: The Thunder Gods roam the Kun and Dui palaces, entering Gen. If practicing, you can write and burn the talisman, summon them while standing on Geng or Xin, and there will be an immediate response. Ding days: The Thunder Gods exit the Li palace and enter Kan. If practicing, burn the documents, paper money, and offerings on Gen, summon them while standing in the direction of the monthly commander, and there will be a response. Wu days: The Thunder Gods gather with the Five Sacred Mountains and all officials, the Three Origins and Nine Palaces' officers, in the Kaiyang Upper Palace's Wondrous Spirit Realm. They investigate the severity of the world's sins, blessings, merits, and faults, reducing people's fortune and shortening their lifespan. You must absolutely not practice, burn incense, or pray. Ji days: The Thunder Gods hold court at the Golden Gate, submitting the records of the world's sins and blessings. If practicing, you should memorialize the Thunder Patriarch and dispatch documents to the Thunder God's Heavenly Palace, all burned towards the Zhen direction, but face the Heavenly Gate (Qian direction) to summon them for an immediate response. Geng days: The Thunder Gods roam Jia and enter Gui. If practicing, prepare documents and burn the talismans, documents, and paper money at the Earth Gate (Gen direction), summon them while standing in the You direction facing the Mao palace, and there will be a great response. Xin days: The Thunder Gods are in the Three Offices' bureaus, together with the Metal, Earth, and Water spirits of the Capital Records Palace, inspecting the merits, faults, sins, and blessings of locusts, the rain department, and the world's ghosts and gods. You can issue official documents at the Wu hour (11 AM - 1 PM), step the *Gang* constellation facing the Heavenly Gate at the Xu hour (7 PM - 9 PM), burn the talisman, and summon them. Ren days: The Thunder Gods roam the four directions. On this day, any matters such as praying, subjugating, destroying temples, or healing illnesses can all be carried out. Gui days: The Thunder Gods exit and enter the Zhen direction. If practicing, summon them towards Bing, burn official documents and paper money at the Earth Gate, and there will be an immediate response.   Verification of the True Mechanism Marvel In the morning, observe the sun carefully; sunlight governs drought, purple means rain. Watch for its green color bringing freezing cold; with thick clouds beside it, there will be a cloudy day.Qi fills the sunlight, the sun loses its color; clouds condense motionless, rain is about to fall. Teach you to carefully deduce and look, this formula should be worth ten thousand gold. Ou The lunar essence has a halo, white as if dusk, soon clouds will rise and the intention of rain will condense. Green color means it must be cold, red means it must be drought, blue color means rainbows appear and fog is thick. Dou In the mouth of the Big Dipper, white clouds are born, in an instant they fly up and cover the handle stars. The morning after tomorrow, sweet rain will fall, matching the wondrous magic of heaven's secrets. Yun White clouds sweep across the vast sky, a sky-howling and earth-scraping wind will rise. Moreover, with headwinds, clouds move rapidly, the earth steams, pillars are damp, and traces of rain come. White qi passes through the sky at Mao and You hours, when it reaches Zi and Wu hours, rain will pour down. Or if seen during Zi and Wu hours, I can predict the sweet rain at Mao and You. Tianhe The Milky Way has qi moving like a snake, the next day clouds will condense and yin fog will arise. If the cloud qi passes by like a pig, within three days rain will pour. Chenqi At dawn, five-colored rosy clouds appear beside the sun; this morning there will definitely be wind and rain without fail. When the setting sun shines with five intertwined colors, the next day the sky will be clear without a single flaw. Chenwang At early dawn, gaze intently from a high place; a thick cloud looks like a black head. It will directly nourish this place, flying diagonally to other places to nourish other regions. Husha To know from which direction rain will come, do not hesitate to guess where the tiger clouds rise. How can one let go and proceed, in an instant there will be thunder and lightning. Mingji One must know all about astronomy and earthly spirits, blending the Three Powers to observe the mechanisms of transformation. If one pursues the wondrous principles from only one path, I fear the timing of heaven and human affairs will contradict each other. Dali Yang reaching its extreme gives rise to yin, the principle is very clear; as the ancients said, when heat reaches its extreme, wind is born. Heaven's secrets and earthly spirits will match, commanding the thunder gods to grant you efficacy. Qihou Pond fish splash and birds fly about, the body is weary and the spirit is dazed, thinking as if foolish. Wandering qi fills the sky, condensing and then scattering; when it scatters and then gathers again, rain will come. Sanhe Shen, Zi, Chen; Yin, Wu, Xu; Hai, Mao, Wei; Si, You, Chou. Sichong Zi, Wu, Mao, You; Yin, Shen, Si, Hai; Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei.   Haoling Ge The thunderclap's list is hung at the edge of the sky, orally taught and heart-transmitted for tens of thousands of years. Not sharing the rites and righteousness with ordinary men, when you recognize the truth, you are a living immortal. Dark clouds are densely seen at dawn and dusk, lightning flashes and rain is continuous. If you observe high and low from the Eight Directions, the four directions above and below are also like this. At dawn Qian, at dusk Xun, the sun is in the sky; although there are clouds, observe morning and evening. When the sun passes the zenith, divination is in vain; if it is a normal day, then it is certain. At the end of the Wu hour and the beginning of the Wei hour, black pigs spitting fire form groups. Corresponding to the sky, wind and clouds gather; on green days the pouring rain does not stop, and only by evening will the haze retreat. Smoke envelops the precious tripod as sunlight appears, misty evening rain weaves across the mountain ridges. Red qi fills the sky, vexing the fierce sun; a white rainbow pierces the Dipper, and rain causes damage. To know if the thunderclap is fast or slow, from morning to night, carefully deduce it. White clouds accompanying the Dipper mean the thunder is small; white clouds obscuring the Dipper mean pouring rain. When sun qi fills the sky, there will be rain; white sheep crossing the sea and Shangyang birds mean rain. Red roosters and purple geese mean thunder and lightning arise; black clouds corresponding to them will hinder each other. Fire clouds corresponding to water spell disaster, the weather is hazy and fog does not clear. Green smoke envelops the fire, returning to the west; east and west correspond with fog and cloud haze. Three days after fire clouds correspond, black clouds and torrential rain will come. If clouds suddenly swirl high in the sky, it will definitely cause a violent storm the next morning. If the cloud swirl is small, the wind is also small; if the swirl is large, it shakes the mountain peaks in fury. The cloud terrace rises abruptly to the heart of the sky, corresponding to the sky, and rain pours down. Further observe the east, south, west, and north; if they do not correspond, it will be half cloudy and half clear. Golden sand spread on the ground is hard for people to recognize; wind and rain intersect without needing to be questioned. If suddenly a rainbow touches the horizon, a red sun still appears over the mountain top. If it is evenly divided, it will rain for three days; when the sun scatters its colors, rain becomes a downpour. If it slightly reveals, the river waves will rise; black clouds correspond with deep fog. If it is fire clouds corresponding, a red sun will still appear in the heart of the sky. When the sun shows its feet, observe its height; if it suddenly has a flat top, it is also level with the eyebrows. If the flat-topped sun appears, level with the eyebrows, a flood dragon will emerge. Green smoke forms layered barriers, the fog is deep; you must truly recognize the thick and light. Light smoke without feet means sunlight appears; thick smoke with feet means excessive rain. Clouds hang over the four wildernesses and suddenly come; if they hang in three directions, it is not a disaster. If there is a strong wind or a rainbow appears, the next morning the sky will open up as before. Three or five black pigs cross the river, and rain will arrive at midnight without fail. If only one crosses the Milky Way, half a day of clouds and sun will be hard to determine. Fish scales rise within the black clouds, suddenly lightning and thunder fill the courtyard. If fire clouds show scales and armor, black clouds will surely roll away and the sky will be greatly clear. Sages passed this down to reveal heaven's secrets; determine the time and moment without error. The transmitter must keep it secret and not lightly reveal it; heaven's secrets are hard for ordinary people to know.   Tiangan Qi Li For example, on Jia and Ji days, let the Dry Fire enter the central palace. From the central five, fly clockwise to Qian six Bingyi, Dui seven Waterlogging, Gen eight Purple Qi, and Li nine Blood Blade. Then from Kan one Sun, Kun two Yuebo, Zhen three Jinshui, and Xun four Taijiang. Among them, the four formations are Dui Ding Si You Chou, Li Ren Yin Wu Xu, Kan Gui Shen Zi Chen, and Zhen Geng Hai Mao Wei; these are the four formations. Shi'er Gong Yongding Xingchen Sun, Wood. Yuebo, Fire. Jinshui, Water. Taijiang, Earth. Tiangang, Metal. Turu, belongs to Earth. Qiluo, Wood. Zaohuo, Fire. Bingyi, Fire. Shuiliao, Water. Ziqi, Wood. Xueren, belongs to Metal.   Leiting Heqi Shikuo Hold the heart of heaven and carefully deduce; when Tiangang meets, thunder will rise. Among them, the evil star pushes the Blood Blade; violent wind and swift rain are like a collapsing cliff. How can Yuebo meet Waterlogging; first thunder, then rain fills the sky. If Jinshui must meet Waterlogging, do not hesitate to guess that thunder will rise and bring rain. Whenever moving thunder, when the year, month, day, and hour fall upon Zhen Geng Hai Mao Wei, it is the thunder path fighting with the Five Elements; only then can thunder be moved, which is highly effective. Also it is said: In the first month, Purple Qi is in Yin; in the second month, Waterlogging meets Mao, which means it has qi.   Leiting Qingyu Kuo When the sky is clear, what qi to seek for thunder and rain? Carefully search within the Five Zi. The prosperous and mutual elements of the Five Phases must respond; without qi, the rain will eventually stop by itself. Signifying clear skies: Yuebo, Sun, Qiluo, Bingyi, Zaohuo. Signifying rain: Shuiliao, Jinshui, Tiangang, Xueren, Yuebo, Ziqi. Signifying thunder: Taijiang, Xueren, Turu, Yuebo, Tiangang. Signifying wind: Bingyi.   Siyu Wei Najia Qian Jia, Kun Yi, Gen Bing, Xun Xin, Wu and Ji belong to Earth, in the central palace.   Qi Ri Xing Li Ji Shi'er Zhi Ye The origin on Chou is the Blade star; the stars shift in reverse and forward by two or three positions.
