The Thousand-Year Secret of the Zhengyi School's Registro Heart Seal (Part 2): Refining the Generals

As mentioned earlier, the generals are those deities worshipped by all beings—this has a deeper meaning; hold it firmly in mind. Different people have different affinities with different deities—some deeper, some shallower. This affinity can be understood as compatibility; when affinities match, one has greater resonance with that deity. So when registering, generals are assigned—really telling you which deity you are more closely tied to. The assigned general is calculated from the register candidate's birth time; once calculated, the corresponding divine general is assigned, and the ordained judge can communicate with that general through certain means.

The Thousand-Year Secret of the Zhengyi School's Confounding Heart Seal (Part 1): Origins

Beyond participating in registration and becoming an official judge, many secrets are actually buried within—this is what we will discuss. The only regret is that the Ancestral Celestial Master left this path only for the true-blood lineages of Zhengyi: only those who receive the true-blood generational names of Zhengyi's Three Mountains can truly empower the heart seal. This poor Daoist has seen quite a few Quanzhen Dao friends also receive initial registration at the Tianshi Mansion on Longhu Mountain; it is unclear whether they too were granted the true-blood generational names. If so, congratulations—they may equally cultivate Zhengyi methods, though when solemnly performing rites they still must use the Zhengyi generational names, or the heart seal remains hard to activate.

Casual Talk on Jiesha (Sealing the Fiendish)

Years ago online there were articles claiming that an old Taoist at the Celestial Master's Mansion said that jiesha requires three kinds of sha: Tiangang Sha, Yongquan Sha, and Zhouhou Sha. Then the notion of jiesha suddenly became all the rage, with the whole internet trying to figure out what jiesha is—yet everyone was utterly baffled. So, to show off that they understand jiesha: some daub a big ink blob, write a few taboo characters, and call it jiesha. Some say the final process of empowering the talisman is jiesha. Some turn the writing brush upside down and dab it on the talisman, calling that jiesha. Some write their own decorative characters and smear them onto the big black blob, calling that jiesha. Some use their gaze or tongue to write taboo characters on the talisman, calling that jiesha. Some go even further: leaf through the Daoist Canon for this sha and that sha, then smugly declare that this is jiesha. All of the above are commonly seen across the major internet platforms, as well as various talisman websites and Taobao talisman shops. How deep can human ignorance go? But thinking the other way, this may perhaps be a good thing: those who know the secret naturally prefer that fewer people know it.

A Commentary on the Five-Dipper Golden Chapter Precious Classic Spoken by the Lord Lao on High—and on the Principle of Repaying the Yin Debt

There is a popular account of repaying the yin debt: once a person is born, they owe the underworld some sum of money; if this debt is not repaid, their fortune will not easily improve—so one should repay the yin debt and luck will get better. This is the most vulgar of folk sayings, and there is even a bizarre name for it—the “skin debt,” said to be owed for buying one's human skin. This talk is coarse and not worth dwelling on. That being born into a human body unavoidably pollutes the environment, occupies earthly resources, preys on animals, and harms living creatures, contrary to Heaven's virtue of cherishing life and detracting from the virtue of Heaven and Earth transforming the ten thousand things—this can be conceded. But to say that one is born already owing someone money for no reason, and must burn paper money to repay it, is pure trouble-seeking: do you want a few thunderbolts to “moved” you into sense?

Invoking Incantation of Marshal Zhao

I reverently invoke the Dragon-Tiger Dark Altar Marshal, Golden Wheel Law-Enforcer Lord Zhao the Heavenly Worthy. Thirty-six Great Spirit Kings, Twenty-Eight Lodges' awe-inspiring generals. They move mountains and uproot trees to overturn the universe; they drive thunder and seize lightning to illumine the firmament. Flying tallies smash temples and hunt down ghostly shrines; they swiftly catch and bind demon and spirit essences. Veiling souls and possessing bodies they convey affairs' intent; lifting the cord and whipping they startle ghosts and gods. Catching thieves they make forms appear and scatter lawsuits; rewarding good and punishing evil they bind wronged spirits. People afflicted by a hundred illnesses are reported cured; I have ten thousand vows fulfilled as my heart's voice. The Eight Kings' fierce generals take the vanguard; the four quarters' great might gathers like clouds. The Celestial Master has decrees—swiftly obey and follow; deploy troops, set formations, array the banners. Hear my command and swiftly report the response; when merit is complete and practice fulfilled, ascend the celestial terrace.

Maoshan Harmony Incantation of the Phoenix Blossom Spirit of Harmony

This is a Maoshan yin method, mainly used for soul-binding entanglement. However, where fate-pattern conflicts are great, using it is ineffective; in severe cases it even backfires, completely severing the affinity. Simplified version, using a straw figure: Respectfully invite the Phoenix Blossom Spirit to descend and arrive. Descend before the altar and quickly support the body. Day-supporting body soul, night-supporting body soul. Day and night not parting. Parting leaves the heart in chaotic confusion. Raise up the woman named ○○○, born ○○○, who day and night thinks of the man's body, named ○○○, born ○○○. Two people of one heart, one mind, one bed and pillow. By day the soul follows, by night the spirit sleeps together. I obey Ancestor Lü in summoning the Phoenix Blossom Spirit. Press the male spirit to join with the female spirit. Press the male spirit-essence to join with the female spirit-essence. The two people's soul and essence have union. Swiftly urge the fire, swiftly by decree. I obey the Phoenix Blossom Spirit's decree of union. By the statutes of Immortal Master Lü, by decree. Divine soldiers, swift as fire, as the statutes require.

Starting from Unvealing the Taoist Secret Art of Life Extension: The Seven-Star Lamp

Anyone who has read Romance of the Three Kingdoms knows that Zhuge Kongming lit the Seven-Star Lamp at Wuzhangyuan, saying "If the main lamp does not go out within seven days, my lifespan may be extended by one ji (twelve years)." Later, Wei Yan hurried in to report military news, accidentally knocked over the main lamp, and the life-extension failed—so Kongming ultimately died. Although Romance of the Three Kingdoms is only a work of fiction, novelists of ancient times differed from modern ones: most adapted things that existed in reality and applied artistic embellishment to turn them into brilliant stories.

Discussing the Deliverance of Unborn Spirits on the Fifteenth Day of the Seventh Month

Many people are confused: why is it that for the deliverance of unborn spirits, although it is also deliverance, spending a large amount of money in Buddhism often yields almost no effect, and multiple deliverances struggle to send them away, making it difficult to get rid of them. However, in Taoism, a single deliverance can solve the problem, with a very obvious improvement in fortune. What is the reason behind this? Actually, from a religious perspective, this is understandable. Generally speaking, the spirits of those who have passed away normally are the most common. Ordinary deliverances can send them to reincarnation. In Buddhist concepts of deliverance, it is believed that deliverance must be performed within forty-nine days. Taoism is basically not restricted by this, because its theories regarding soul and spirit are completely different. In some schools, there are also references to similar statements, defining forty days as a special deadline, after which one enters the underworld for judgment. The saying of forty-nine days generally holds that this is the period of the intermediate state (Zhongyin), and after exceeding forty-nine days, reincarnation has already occurred, making deliverance impossible. In Jainism, which developed from Brahmanism, the existence of the intermediate state is not acknowledged; it is believed that reincarnation occurs instantly after death, without any transitional phase.

Matters Regarding Raising Soldiers and Spirits

People are very concerned about matters such as raising ghosts, and there are quite a few admirers. Many celebrities in the entertainment industry also raise ghosts to seek luck, which is truly confusing. Although the practice of raising ghosts has existed since ancient times, it has never been accepted by orthodox Dharma because it is ultimately not orthodox. As the saying goes: “Those who raise them for a long time will inevitably suffer disaster.” However, this “long-term raising” is sometimes not visible within one generation; the disaster may manifest after several generations. Thus, some bold individuals act recklessly, bringing disaster to their descendants. People who raise ghosts are mainly seeking shortcuts, such as Thai Guman Tong or female great ghosts (also known as Nine-Tailed Fox Spirits, which are actually female ghosts), to quickly seek marriage or wealth.

Secrets of Talismans: Exploring the Five Elements Disaster Escape Array

Among the secret methods for avoiding disasters, there is one called the Five Elements Disaster Escape Array. It utilizes the Five Elements of Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth to perform escape techniques. This is a magical method for resolving disasters, specifically used for dodging calamities, which differs from the Five Elements Escape Arts. This method is specifically targeted at one's destiny and body. If a person's destiny chart shows obvious disasters, or if there are significant disasters in their major luck cycles or annual luck, the Five Elements Escape method can be used to escape these disasters. Its principle is to use the Five Elements to counter and eliminate disasters. There is always one element capable of controlling the disaster, so this method can handle all kinds of disasters. Similarly, this method is often applied in Feng Shui. By using the Five Elements for external protection, myriad evils and malevolent forces are always suppressed and cannot enter.

Practicing Methods of Writing Talismans and Other DharmasTalisman Methods

Practicing Methods of Writing Talismans and Other Dharmas

The highest level involves using the Primordial Qi to write talismans and perform rituals. This method harmonizes perfectly with nature and is extraordinarily efficacious. However, it is essentially exchanged through the Original Yang energy; internal cultivation forms the Elixir, which is then used externally for rituals. Using this Qi is essentially using one's life force to write talismans. Using it before the Elixir is formed harms the life force; using it before the Spirit Embryo is formed harms the Elixir; using it before the Yang Spirit is formed harms the Embryo. After the Yang Spirit is formed, it still requires nurturing and cannot be used. Only when the Yang Spirit is fully matured and lodged in the void can it be mobilized without danger. Therefore, although the Primordial Qi is wondrous, using it to write talismans for non-critical matters is unwise. Thus, in ancient times, this method was only practiced when stubborn evil spirits were difficult to cure or when prolonged droughts caused suffering to the people, requiring the summoning of thunder and rain. The next level involves the method of Tian Gang Righteous Qi. Gang Qi can transform all things, reverse the Five Elements, reverse life and death, change Yin and Yang, and cause ghosts and gods to retreat. The way of Gang Qi

The Dao has no inherent good or evil; it depends on how people use it. Recently, someone asked about the art of soul-hanging. Rumors in the folk world are chaotic and inconsistent. Fortunately, I had some prior knowledge of this topic, so I will explain it in detail here. Soul-hanging, whether in the East or West, involves using straw figures or other humanoid objects to perform curses, but most are ineffective. The main reason for ineffectiveness is the omission of the "soul-hanging" step. Here, we primarily introduce the positive applications of soul-hanging arts, rather than methods for harming others.

Bagua Diagram and the Aegishjalmur Rune in Nordic Runes

The Aegishjalmur rune is a type of Western Runes, commonly used by Scandinavian (geographically referring to the Scandinavian Peninsula, including Norway and Sweden) pirates. Since pirates often needed to fight and could easily lose their lives, using this rune served to protect oneself from blade injuries. However, because all pirates used this rune, although there were differences in their individual powers, overall, they largely canceled each other out. This rune is extremely similar to China's Bagua. In metaphysics, the Bagua also has functions of guarding, protection, and suppression, meaning it has the efficacy of warding off evil and dispelling malevolent forces, as well as the function of eliminating disasters and ensuring peace.

This magic model can almost be found in indigenous witchcraft around the world. Any religion that worships multiple gods, or beliefs in ancestral souls

The Canopy Ruler, Canopy Mantra, and Canopy RitualTalisman Methods

The Canopy Ruler, Canopy Mantra, and Canopy Ritual

The Canopy Ruler is one of the ritual implements used in Taoist ceremonies to stabilize the altar and ward off evil, and it should not be used indiscriminately. It is typically employed when establishing a ritual altar. In the altars of certain Taoist lineages, it is common to see items such as peach wood swords, command flags, command arrows, command tablets, the Canopy Ruler, and altar-stabilizing wooden blocks. Some also place other implements like ghost-torturing sticks. (The claim on Baidu Baike that Taoist altars must typically display at least these items is incorrect; this practice belongs only to a very small minority of lineages. Many other orthodox lineages, depending on their specific transmissions, do not require these items on most altars.) The Canopy Ruler should be used in conjunction with the Northern Emperor Canopy Demon-Subduing Great Dharma, the Mixing Heaven Flying Capture Four Saints Demon-Subduing Great Dharma, the Shangqing Child-First Five Elements Mansion Jade Register Orthodox Dharma, the Purple Court Pursuit, Punishment, Supplementation, and Severance Great Dharma, the Northern Yin Fengdu Tai Xuan Demon-Subduing Black Law for Collecting Evil Sorcerers, the Northern Yin Fengdu Tai Xuan Demon-Subduing Black Law for Spirit Writing, and the cultivation of the Canopy Mantra. Among these, the Canopy Seal and Canopy Talisman are also extremely important. The Canopy Ruler is a crucial implement for executing Canopy rituals. Historically, it was primarily passed down secretly within the Shangqing school of Taoism, and later transmitted through various lineages by Patriarch Deng Ziyang. When the merit and virtue of its cultivation are fulfilled, one can achieve: 'Evil ghosts, demons, and spirits, fierce and vicious monsters, will flee upon hearing its name. Ten thousand illnesses and a thousand disasters will be cured upon hearing its words. It can cause dead wood to bloom, dry wells to gush with spring water, break the five ghosts and epidemics, subdue the six heavens' residual qi, half-sky five yu, mountain spirits, and demon foxes, cutting off their influence through the mantra. Using the seal to lock ghost caves, executing dragons and water spirits, communicating through petitions without obstruction, swallowing, wearing, pasting, and stabilizing with it grants the power to revive the dead. Upon completion of the work and fulfillment of the practice, one ascends to immortality riding the ruler and wearing the seal.'

On the Yin Talisman Rules in Christianity and Buddhism

Noun Explanation: Yin Talisman: Throughout history, the concept of 'Yin Talisman' has appeared frequently, yet there has never been a clear definition. In the Daoist Yin Talisman school, it is believed that any form presented by methods that simulate the natural laws of life and death between heaven and earth in a certain way, and utilize their power, can be called a 'talisman'. The so-called 'Yin Talisman' refers to the meaning of 'conforming secretly'. Life and Death: This is a manifestation of worldly laws. Taking the human hand as an example, if there were only life without death, the human hand would not have fingers but would become a large fleshy palm. Precisely because there is the power of 'death' within, the cells that should be born are born, and those that should die are eliminated, allowing five fingers to grow on the hand. In this

Secrets of the Talisman: The Nine Phoenix Purification Talisman

The method of Nine Phoenix Purification is used very frequently in Taoism. Whenever an altar is established and rituals are performed, purification is generally required to sweep away the energy of all evil spirits and create a pure environment, then performing rituals and using talismans in this environment can greatly reduce interference. At the same time, because the Nine Phoenix Purification Talisman has this extremely strong power of purification, it is often used to transform water into talismanic water to sweep away various evil spirits when there are strange events in the house or unsettling yin evil matters. In the ordination of the Zhengyi sect, there is one called the Supreme Orthodox Nine Phoenix Purification Ordination. The Nine Phoenix Purification Talisman is the core of the Nine Phoenix Purification method. Many disciples of modern schools, due to the lack of lineage, do not know that this is a mandatory step in performing rituals, resulting in either difficulty in verifying rituals or minimal effects, and even worse, due to incorrect time and space orientation in establishing the altar and without purification, performing rituals can lead to harm, thus practitioners often encounter various problems, leading to folk legends that practitioners always have bad luck or suffer from the five disadvantages and three deficiencies. Although not purifying is not the only factor causing ritual failure or affecting oneself, it is also one of the important factors.

Secrets of Talismans: Sacrificial Moon Ritual

Chinese people have always worshipped the moon, and the full moon is considered a symbol of "endless fortune" and "happiness and fulfillment." The folk custom of admiring the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival roughly began during the Wei and Jin dynasties. After the Ming and Qing dynasties, on every Mid-Autumn Festival, people would set out wine and seasonal fruits to admire the moon and chat freely. The Daoist temple performs a sacrifice to the Moon Deity on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, the Mid-Autumn Festival, generally holding the "Sacrificial Moon Court Ritual." This originated from ancient sacrificial moon activities. In ancient times, people conducted "Spring Prayer" activities before sowing in spring to pray for the Earth God to bestow grains. By the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is the harvest season, people not only thanked the Earth God but also thanked the Moon Deity, known as the "Autumn Sacrifice." Because people believed that the abundant harvest of grains could not be separated from the moon's illumination and nourishment. According to the "Book of Rites": "The Son of Heaven worships the sun in spring and the moon in autumn; the sun is worshipped in the morning, and the moon is worshipped in the evening." This means that the Son of Heaven sacrifices to the sun in spring and to the moon in autumn; the sun sacrifice is in the morning, and the moon sacrifice is in the evening. By the Zhou Dynasty, sun sacrifices were conducted in the eastern suburbs on the Start of Spring, Start of Summer, Start of Autumn, and Start of Winter, each with different meanings. Daoist Jiao rituals have a deep connection with early sacrificial moon activities. The "Book of Sui: Treatise on Literature" explains "Jiao" as: "In the night under the stars, setting out wine, dried meat, cakes, pastries, money, and objects, sequentially worshipping the Heavenly Emperor, Taiyi, the Five Planets, and the constellations, writing a document like the ritual of presenting memorials, named as Jiao."<br /> &nbsp;<br /> &nbsp; This is an early textual record of Daoist Zhai Jiao activities, a form that has continued to the present day Daoism. Below is an introduction to this sacrificial moon ritual:<br /> &nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;Master's opening remarks: "Most loved is the Mid-Autumn moon, with ten thousand rays of clear light. Wind shakes the pines, breaking the moonlight; wind still, the moon is unbroken." Step Void: "Clear shade divides the four seasons, long and short until the third watch. Only for selfless illumination, following the wind to Peng and Ying." Raise: "Miao Guo Su Yue Tian Zun." Hanging scroll: "The year meets Mid-Autumn, the moon is brighter. Chang'e dances in the clear wind in the Toad Palace. A precious moon hangs in the void, the Emperor's will and motherly heart are like a bright mirror. The wooden fish clearly chants the true scriptures, the zither sound coldly penetrates the water sound. The merit of sacrificing to the moon is inconceivable, the assembled Daoist congregation ensures peace. Incense offering to Miao Guo Su Yue Tian Zun."<br /> &nbsp;<br /> &nbsp;Master's prayer: "Humbly, the Mid-Autumn divine moon, the sky is clear and the air is fresh. Chiming opens the light, fairy maidens and musicians. Chang'e's dance posture, divine dragons bow to the moon. Divine wind inspires, flowing incense brushes dust. Purple mist emits radiance, crimson clouds spread across the sky. Three lights shine together, all heavens are bright. Rivers and seas are silent, mountains and peaks hide in smoke. Dragons and chi leap. Humans and gods rejoice, life and death share rest. All who worship the Moon Deity gain long life. Just one incense stick is picked, the precious name is proclaimed." Raise: "Miao Guo Su Yue Tian Zun." Outline: "The true heart pure and clear, the Dao is the root, like the precious moon in the mid-heavens. Cleanly sweep away the clouds of delusion without a speck of shadow, one round of light fills the great void." Master begins with "Three Treasures Chant Rhyme" followed by "Incantation of Blessing Incense" and "Incantation of Might": "Pure and bright moon, orchid wind breathes. Chang'e invites the moon, jade toad rings gold. Like gold in the furnace, like silk on the loom. Nine realms of jade are cut off, seven degrees hang in the void. Dividing emptiness to create scenes, gathering qi to construct heaven. Things nourish after numbers, transformation arises before images. Life follows the form turning, spirit resides in the scene transmitting. Descendants of today, admire the pure dust. We, your ministers, take refuge in the Dao, merging with the true Dao." Outline: "Respectfully facing the precious moon, requesting our positions."<br /> &nbsp;<br /> &nbsp; After the master states his position, he connects to the Holy Class: "Moon Mansion Taiyin, Jielin Huangjun, Baoguang Youzhao Rulai, Miao Guo Su Yue Tian Zun. Heavenly Palace Holy Moon, Sumo Taiyin Tian Zun. Heavenly Palace Holy Moon, Linghui Taiyin Huangjun. Heavenly Palace Holy Moon, Kunling Taiyin Huangjun. Having the sacrificial moon and thanking sages memorial text, respectfully facing and spreading." Finished, rise "Taiyin Gao" followed by "Incense Flower Sending Rhyme", the supervisor burns the memorial, offers tea. The Secret of Talismans: Daoist Visualization Practice

Visualization, also known as mental concentration or meditation on deities, refers to the silent contemplation of the images of various gods. It is an important magical art through which the high priest communicates with the divine in ritual ceremonies. Visualization originally was a health-preserving technique of inner observation of the viscera popular in the Han Dynasty, used for personal cultivation. Daoism also adopted visualization as a cultivation technique, and it became a major category of Daoist magic. This paper focuses on visualization in Daoist ritual ceremonies. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the practice of visualization was already very popular. Ge Hong, in his *Baopuzi Inner Chapters—Earthly Truth*, discussed the method of visualization, saying: "Among the various scriptures of Daoist arts, there are thousands of methods for contemplation and mental focus that can ward off evil and protect the body. For example, containing the scenery and concealing the form, guarding the form without birth, the nine transformations and twelve metamorphoses, the twenty-four births, and contemplating the various [deities] within the body..."
