Glimpses Through a Feng Shui Telescope (IV)
Six years ago, a family in Shanghai had their residence sitting on Jia facing Geng, leaning toward Mao and You. They reported that after the mother moved into the house, within less than a year she suffered several sudden strokes and remained hospitalized; yet before moving in, she had yearly check-ups that always showed nothing wrong. I examined the interior and exterior of the rooms and asked several questions; there were a few inauspicious spots—some could not be moved, others could not be altered, as the property management would not permit it; what could be changed was quite limited. So I had them open a small door in the Wu direction and suppress the site with a Seventy-Two Dragon talisman; afterward, matters were indeed fine. Yet at the time I told him: within three years you must find a way to sell all the stocks in your hands, or misfortune may follow.
Glimpses Through a Feng Shui Telescope (III)
More than ten years ago, by chance, I once adjusted the stele orientation of a tomb in a southwestern locale. In the mountainous land where it sat, the distant hills had twin peaks joined with a depression between them, and a local practitioner said the tomb must face the tip of the distant peak, never the depression. I replied: if it truly faces the depression, and that shoots toward the cave, how could a mere shift of a hairline in orientation avoid it? The facing mountain is so far away—where would the force to shoot the cave come from? I thus said it must be changed to face this gap, chose an auspicious date for him, and said to first remove the stele; within seven days afterward, there would surely be thunder. Seven days after the stele was removed, thunder indeed sounded; within a few months he was suddenly promoted to deputy secretary of the local municipal party committee—this was the verification of taking up the thunder's force, for the mountain faced east-west, drawing on the Zhen trigram.
A Record of a Burial Site
In a Renchen year, I saw a person seeking to bury someone: the tiger side had a breach and received the year sha, so I remarked lightly that this site could not be used. However, the master he had invited said: “Qi rides the wind and disperses; here the wind blows from the northwest year-round, and this place is not exposed to the wind—it suits storing wind and gathering qi, so it is harmless.” His words seemed reasonable, so the family believed him. Observing the family head’s fate chart as well, it likewise showed punishments and clashes with wife, daughters, grandchildren—I knew it was settled. Years later, this year I learned the family’s situation: several years after the burial, his mother passed away, the third son died young, and his wife contracted a terminal illness. Is this not the response of the tiger side? Yet although one may say a mediocre master harms people, it was also his fate. Moreover, though principles may be grand, there are true and false ones—one must not fail to distinguish them.
A Note on a College Entrance Examination Inquiry
A woman casually asked how her son would fare on this year's college entrance examination. As it was difficult to examine the sitting and facing in detail, I only asked the general direction. Her residence sits north on the first floor; the study faces northeast, within a residential complex; and there was no road to the northeast. From the northeast window of the study one could see outside a pond of water within the complex. I told her that her son studied extremely well, though his health might be somewhat poor, and thus predicted that this year's examination results would surely be excellent. She said this was entirely correct: her son ranked first in his grade, at a key high school. In general, a single body of water faces them, and for a Kan residence the literary star lies in the northeast; water seen to the northeast also indicates clever children — only the slight weakness of the body is regrettable. Moreover, the examination fell in a Xu year; in the Wu month the literary star also lies in the northeast, so he received its qi.
Three Talismans Rapidly Urging: An Example
In the eleventh month of the Bing-Shen year, a fated patron came seeking, saying his business had been dismal for half a year—not a single sale—owing people over a million; he wished for a rapid urging to obtain wealth. I usually dislike this most, for there are no shortage of opportunists. Yet I heard that in the winter month he saw a school student in bitter cold, so with what strength he had he bought several hundred pairs of gloves to give them, feeling he was rather kind-hearted; later I heard many more deeds. So I invited him to write a pledge: if this difficulty were resolved, within three years he must donate a full two hundred thousand for charity, verified only by charity-receipts; afterward he pledged it.
A Case of Erecting a Stele to Invite Auspiciousness: Seeking Sons and Wealth
Seven years ago, returning to Jiangxi to honor the ancestors, I met a man in the village who said his father’s generation had four brothers and five sisters, but by his own generation only four remained—two men and two women—and the next generation had no children at all. His cousin became pregnant but miscarried midway; the others neither conceived nor bore children. Observing the ancestral graves, the water collection was misaligned and the site’s fortune had already passed…
A Case of Years of Unsuccessful IVF in Seeking a Child
A few years ago, a woman had been unable to conceive in China for many years; hospital examinations found no cause. Afterward she underwent IVF in Shanghai without success, so she went to the United States for IVF, hearing the success rate was higher. Still the embryo would not implant; utterly helpless, she returned home and considered adoption. Upon a chance meeting I examined the couple’s charts: the woman’s Food God was controlled, metal was cold and water chilled, and the man’s children palace was also afflicted by Empty Sky and Earth Robbery—clear signs of no offspring.
A Case of Relieving Pain in Late-Stage Cancer
Having studied the Way for less than a year, I visited a friend in the hospital. I met a family member—an elderly woman over seventy with late-stage cancer, suffering unbearable pain all over her body, long confined to the ward. I heard that at first medication still helped somewhat, but later drugs could no longer stop the pain; whenever the pain struck she longed to die, only her family held her back. Though advanced in years and thus hard to help, and though my own power was thin, I could not bear to see her suffering, so I asked if I might try…
A Case of Prolonging Life in Brain Cancer
This case was entrusted to this humble priest by a fellow practitioner. An elderly man over eighty suffered brain cancer, mostly unconscious with rare lucid moments, and had stopped eating. The hospital had already issued a critical-illness notice; his remaining life was but a few days. His son came to ask a fellow Daoist whether any good method existed; the Daoist then asked me. I acknowledged I had no power to reverse heaven, but only supportive methods that might extend his life a little while—worth trying. The son agreed…
A Fever of Half a Month Broken by One Talisman
A few years ago, a man in his twenties had been hospitalized half a month with recurrent high fever that would not break; examinations found no cause. His family sought help. I asked whether he had gone out one or two days before the fever; he said the second day of the month. I asked whether toward the southeast, with more heat than cold; he said the fever would not relent, with occasional chills. The illness-talisman method prescribes white paper money sent thirty paces to the southeast—but the patient was far away, so I switched to Zhuyou and one talisman; within less than two hours the fever broke. The next day was normal, he was discharged, and there was no relapse.
A Case of Cough and Asthma Cured by One Talisman
A woman about fifty had suffered asthma for over ten years, with difficulty breathing during attacks. She was often hospitalized; all manner of medications had little effect. From long illness and medical texts, cold-wind asthma arises from cold phlegm accumulating in the stomach, with the triple burner's fiery qi insufficient to transform it—fire deficiency, earth weakness, earth weakness, metal deficiency—so phlegm lodges within and cough and wheeze rise. This is a slow illness and a chronic one. One Zhuyou session cured it the same day; for a year it did not return. The talisman was not complex—only a few taboo characters to disperse the cold pathogen, drawing southern fire qi into the talisman, dissolving it into water, and drinking it. The speed of effect was due to matching the pattern.
Two Cases of Safe Driving and Preserved Life
Too much time has passed; the year is hard to pin down—roughly seven or eight years ago. Jotting this down in passing. One Spring Festival, a female believer obtained a travel-safety talisman before the holiday. While driving on the highway during the festival, she could not react in time to turn and drove off the road. At extreme speed the car flew out, hit the ground, and rolled seven or eight times; the vehicle was completely deformed and wrecked. Yet the driver crawled out of the car unharmed except for a minor scrape on her arm. Everyone was shocked, saying such a crash must mean certain death…
A Case of a Competitor Crippling Herself
A piece from 2011, originally written on Sina Blog and moved here. Last year, while this humble priest was minding an online shop, the Wangwang messenger suddenly pinged. A woman came and asked for a divination—whether her ex-boyfriend would receive retribution. Ordinarily such readings are refused, but she begged so earnestly that he opened the casting. It turned out she ran a foreign-trade online store, doing some business online. She had pressed her boyfriend to work hard for money; he took all she earned and then left her. After she opened the store, however, she was often attacked by competitors who maliciously flood-negative-reviewed her shop, and she asked how to deal with them. Methods for breaking petty people always somehow hurt someone…
Treating Acute Renal Failure with a Spiritual Talisman: One Case
A piece from 2011, originally written on Sina Blog and moved here. More than a decade ago, this poor priest was just beginning to practice Daoist methods; his attainment was incomplete, only an inch or so of skill. During Spring Festival that year he went home to reunite with his parents. One day a friend suddenly called on his mobile: the friend’s mother had been hospitalized for vomiting and diarrhea. After being transferred through several large hospitals, none could find the root cause after days of tests. Later she was moved to a small Chinese-medicine hospital; a senior physician saw the reports and was shocked—this was poisoning. Upon questioning it was fish-bile poisoning, and she was rushed to the city’s key hospital. After admission, because so much time had been lost, her kidney function was already damaged and shrinking; she could not urinate and could only rely on…
Treating Hemoptysis in an Acute Case
A piece from 2011, originally written on Sina Blog and moved here. Several years ago, invited by a friend to the capital, he saw the man at the dinner table coughing violently and repeatedly, with blood-streaked sputum—whitish mixed with red. It was already night, and the man was buried in affairs, almost every day flying to different cities and countries; almost every day he lived a straight line among plane, hotel, and car. Though his background was deep and his connections far-reaching, and though much of his enterprise rested on that background, he had never bullied anyone. He was open and generous, a believer in Buddhism and Dao, but stubborn by nature—he refused to go to the hospital. Seeing how serious it was, this poor priest could not stand by…
