Brief Notes Interpreting Liu Ren Ancient Cases with Qimen
Taken from the "One-Word Formula Jade Linked Ring" and the "Shao Yanhe Liu Ren Case Records"
1. Yang Dun configuration 8, Jia-Xu decade, Gui-Wei hour, Shen-You void, Chief Talisman Tianying, Chief Envoy Jing Door
Interpretation: The Heaven-plate Chief Talisman with the Injury Door indicates debt-collecting matters; the Earth-plate Chief Talisman is the first transmission, for collection in the sixth month. The Chief Talisman moves into Dui and becomes void, then moves into the Kan palace; in the twelfth month collection again, encountering Vermilion Bird—disputes and arguments. Within the void there is Six Harmony, so someone mediates peace. Look specifically at the Chief Envoy; the Chief Envoy moves into Kan, and the day stem is also there.
Matter: The party's intention was to go out to collect an old debt in two parts; it had been traded in the Ochre year. The sum was 320 guan. By the sixth month, 56 guan were received. In the twelfth month collection again, there was argument and dispute; yet with the mediation of a certain Dong, the party made peace, and the debt was fully recovered.
2. Yang Dun configuration 2, Jia-Chen decade, Bing-Wu hour, Yin-Mao void, Chief Talisman Tianrui, Chief Envoy Death Door
Interpretation: Observing the Chief Talisman one obtains the Open Door, indicating work and employment. The Talisman is placed on Bing in Kun, and also gains Ren—so cooperation with others. Moreover, the Chief Envoy is in Xun, so seeking wealth to the southeast may be favorable. Only that Dark Warrior appears within the Talisman, indicating deception and concealment; falling into void, the fraud does not take rise. Again, the Gen palace appears—Earth Punishment and Dark Warrior, someone seeking to harm—but this also falls into void, so it does no harm.
Matter: The party's intention was to go out and seek wealth to the southeast. Through a certain Cui, a trade was concluded; that person harbored deception inwardly but finally did not dare to act. Also, a certain Wang of the Dog year sign wished to cause harm, but in the end resolved by itself.
3. Yang Dun configuration 9, Jia-Yin decade, Ding-Si hour, Zi-Chou void, Chief Talisman Tianfu, Chief Envoy Blocked Door
Interpretation: When the Talisman sees Death, it must indicate matters of death; moreover in the Zhen position. The Fright Door in Xun meeting Gui indicates drinking; door oppression is ominous. The Blocked Door as Chief Envoy indicates Wu in Xun as an image of blockage—thus death from food and drink.
Matter: Jiang Chang, Zhu Chang. This person died from excessive food and drink, injuring liver and stomach, and suffering bloody dysentery of a sudden nature; also the small intestine was obstructed, adding distension and fullness of heart and abdomen; medicines were ineffective, food and drink could not be taken, and he died at dawn and dusk.
4. Assistant Instructor Ye, born Wu-Wu, fifty-one years old, divining about a residence. Wu-Shen year, first month, Xin-Mao day, Rooster general as Earthly Branch, Wei hour.
Interpretation: The Life Door is the residence. The Earth-plate Chief Talisman falls void; Qian indicates the number six, so after six years the house is broken and demolished. Also the opposite palace's Dark Warrior meets the Death Door and fills the void, becoming a burial site; Qian is the elder—so an elder must be buried within. Yi is the hour stem; the hour stem is in Gen. The day stem is Xin; moreover the residence overcomes the person, so it is inauspicious; and the Wu year overcomes the Chief Talisman, indicating harm to elders. Counting from the Shen year to the Gen palace is exactly six years, when Gui-Chou is met.
Matter: Master Shao said: In this lesson the branch comes to the stem and is controlled by the stem—called "son-in-law residence." The Grand Year enters the residence and overcomes it; the residence comes to the person and is again overcome by the person. Within six years the family is ruined and the house demolished, becoming a burial site; an elder must be buried within. Six years earlier, everything was shattered—gate and doors split apart—indicating outsiders' surnames or returned monks entering and troubling; thus the house was ruined.
5. Elder Third Shao, born Gui-Hai, forty-six years old, divining about a residence. Wu-Shen year, eighth month, Xin-Si day, Dragon general as Earthly Branch, Hai hour.
Interpretation: Life Door with Nine Earth is the old residence; meeting Gui indicates a water leak. The hour stem Ji generates the day stem Xin—the residence is fitting for the person. The Death Door is the Chief Envoy, directly charging the Life Door, indicating a death. Xin is the combination of Bing—so it is the death of the wife. The day stem Xin's brother is Geng; Geng falls into void, so already dead. Also Bing and Yi share a palace, the image of Yi transforming into Bing; Yi is the brother's wife, now transforming to become Bing's wife. Eight years of keeping company: the Life Door's palace is charged by Death riding Bing and Yi.
Matter: Master Shao said: In this lesson the wife is the master. The day goes to join the branch; the husband goes and sheds the wife—the wife is the elder, and the husband is instead the younger. Yet your wife was originally your brother's wife, and you obtained her; later you will only have nine years of keeping company. In the eighth year, because of establishing a place for the living, you fall out with your brother: the living rarely obtain this place, and the dead cannot be buried there. Presently it indicates mourning the wife—because of a grinding stone pressing on the east gate—hence the trouble of remarriage.
