Song of Ascending Mystery Entering the Chamber

People know only of year and month, competing to misread the various classics.
Some speak of luminary qi, some of honored stars, some of the Nine Stars Celestial Sage secrets.
Muddled names without number, within them few comprehend the wondrous secrets.
They lie only in the four configurations of Thunder—with Thunder joined to qi, heaven and earth move. (Sanfu note: the four configurations of Thunder are precisely the year, month, day, and hour configurations.)
Generals out and ministers in, merit is won; One keeps position, Nine Palaces turn.
Chuanyin and Zhifu are the same as this—who dares act as the dangling-hexagram envoy? (Sanfu note: Chuanyin and Zhifu belong within the Dao; if civilians use them for building and repair, they must not be offended.)
Wandering directions without knowing the track—only Yang and Zeng attained true interest.
Each orders year and month to return to the central road; do not lightly say the one who understands is worth a thousand gold. (Sanfu note: returning to the central road is precisely entering the center.)
Even with a thousand gold, do not transmit the teaching; able to make a white-walled house produce lords and ministers.
Able to make poor households grow rich; disaster and fortune, calamity and blessing as if matching tallies.
Certain judgments of death and life all have grounds; the Yang spirit is what harms the sons.

Discuss poverty, discuss lowliness—all are sacred; General, Tai Sui, and Official Talisman.
Seven Killings and Metal Spirit—all are not feared. If you cast the Moving Wealth, wealth prospers.
If you cast the Official Talisman, office exceeds; the Body Sovereign fixes destiny, good for construction.
Ten thousand ages, a thousand years, never ceasing—deduce and examine the five phases to know wondrous principles.
Calamity and fortune, disaster and auspice as if counting on fingers; Blood Blade and Metal Star harm blood-wealth.
Yin persons and young mouths share the calamity; Greater Sun as Sovereign, joy thick.
Capital wealth, donkeys and horses then prosper; know that Lunar Apogee burns wild fire.
Overcoming the new bride, she strikes her chest; Metal-Water star names dwell in auspicious position.
Dwelling in office one gains the rank of duke and marquis; the Terrace General rising star, one must know.
Sha arriving at the house-mother and granddaughter-in-law—pregnant cattle and horses do not yield alike.
If the eight positions meet, half auspicious; Celestial Bulwark Metal Star, you may build and make.
In Si, You, or Chou years much happiness; western wealth-horse comes of itself to welcome.

In all affairs, making and managing will surely not err.

This secret is complete in the Chen Zixing Cangshu; it actually derives from the Daoist Thunder Formula (also called the Thunder Class). As for civilian use in building and repair, the method differs. The popular transmission of “eight-frames-of-Thunder day-classes” that do not fear the various sha has really no connection with this. Also observing this song’s text, it must date from later ages. The Thunder class-setting is also carefully recorded in books like the Xiangji Tongshu, yet with vague places as well. For example it counts the Six Jia stopped stars in reverse and the branches; the branches answer the stars—Hai answers Lunar Apogee, which can be calculated as the month—yet it separately lists a method of month calculation that differs greatly from what the stopped stars yield. So the stopped stars are called Thunder Greater Sun; one suspects its compiler of old only obtained the secret talk, not the true method of this class, hence forming a “dead class.”
