Shao Yanhe Case: Jianyan Third Year, Jiyou Year, First Month, Xinsi Day, Zi Officer and Chen Hour — Divining
Supervisor Zhao, born in a Dingchou year on the tenth day of the ninth month at the Chou hour, aged thirty-two, divining about taking up office.
Original judgment:
Shao Yanhe said: It indicates taking office in the second month of this year. Above the day sits the official star as the nobleman, meeting the fire bureau; metal is pressed by the fire official; the annual age again adds another layer of official star to drive it — he will certainly set off. You must see an elder nearly die from illness and drink, and then it will be fulfilled. The Ding spirit at the residence has already moved; when it comes to the handover, there will surely be some obstruction. After sixteen months he will suffer his father's death and return. Because Zhao was filling in for a previous vacancy, he was urged to take office in the second month. On the second day of the second month his father got drunk and nearly died; seven days later the dispatch indeed arrived. Only in the eighth month was the handover completed, because the previous office-holder demanded Zhao acknowledge a deficit before the handover could be done — hence the delay to the eighth month. In the eleventh month of the following year, he returned for his father's mourning. In total, sixteen months. Generally speaking, common people fear the official ghost coming down to overcome them directly — indicating official troubles and mourning disasters. Only for officials taking up post does one need the official star to be vigorous, and then one takes post. Xin has long life at Si; Si represents the father; Si on You shows Snake; You is wine; Snake vexes it — hence illness and drink. Si and Wu are linked: once Si is fulfilled, Wu is fulfilled soon after. My humble comment: that he returned due to his father's death — because Mourning and Hanging fully enter the three transmissions; the final one is the Return Calculation Gate, forming Great Constant, which is mourning dress. Only the "sixteen months" cannot be explained — and how did he know it was sixteen months rather than sixteen years?
Qimen re-judgment:
The Open Gate rides Chong, and also rides Nine Heavens — taking post will surely be urgent. Yet joining at the Zhen palace, it is overcome by the Open Gate's clash; in the second month there will certainly be change and movement. Moreover the grand configuration is fan-yin (reverse echo) — matters will repeat and reverse. The Open Gate's value falls in the You month, so only in the eighth month can the handover be completed. Because of the Ding-Ren union, it is bound and cannot proceed; only when metal month releases wood does it resolve.
Wu represents the father; riding the sickness star, it appears at the Death Gate, and also meets Gui water — that is illness and drink. Wu is in the long-life place, so there is no worry; yet this palace is door-pressed as ominous — although temporarily auspicious, it cannot last long.
Again, Geng enters Qian — the saying "the Great White enters Qian-Kun" means parents suffer adversity in early years. Qian is the father, so there is the matter of the father's death. Its union is Geng, fulfilled at Jiyou; it also completes from the original Kan — so the father's death is fulfilled in the Zi month of the Jiyou year. Obtaining the Open Gate, riding fan-yin, it is the image of returning.
