Shao Yanhe said: With this lesson, staying at the wife's family, one cannot set off for a long time. Now fortunately the day's tomb carries Ding, so thoughts of change and movement arise. After the temple term is full, one will certainly obtain an appointment supervising a capital bureau, mostly something like a medicine bureau. The final transmission Yin at the front draws out the tomb, so one gets to leave. Moreover, it is a night nobleman — a nobleman long confined — who now can be put to use at court; therefore one can draw on him. If one sees a servant being scalded by soup while cooking noodles in the kitchen, that is the time when the good news arrives. It also indicates that a child falling into a water pit outside the Buddhist hall will likewise fulfill the prediction. From age twenty-three, he had been lodging at his wife's family; that year he wished to make a move, and obtained this lesson. In the seventh month of the Gengxu year, his wife's father's shrine term was completed, and he obtained the post of supervisor at the Bureau of Medicinal Preparation. Because his father-in-law, Vice Minister Xu, was at the Nine Palace Observatory, he obtained an appointment to Taizhou. The "night nobleman long confined" spoken of was exactly this person. In the Xinhai year on his daughter's birthday, noodles were cooked in the kitchen; a servant boy brought out noodles, was bumped by someone, and scalded by the soup. Later, while hosting guests late into the night, relatives' children were playing outside the Buddhist hall, slipped and fell into a small pond. The next morning, an urgent dispatch came ordering him to take up his post. Chou on Xin forms the tomb spirit; Heavenly Empress is again the spirit of stagnation. Chou within hides the ten-day Ding, meaning shaking, movement, and change. Shen is medicine, placed on Si; Si is the kitchen stove, and Shen is also noodles. Sky Kong is the servant; Hai on Shen is Dark Warrior. Dark Warrior is a water spirit representing the pond; Dark Warrior also means falling into water. Xin takes Hai as children — indicating a child falling into this pond. The final transmission sees the nobleman riding the Heavenly Gate — this is the time to take up the post.
Qimen re-judgment:
The inner and outer plates with fu-yin make movement difficult; asking about official matters, one looks to the Open Gate. What gathers is Geng. Tian Chong and the Injury Gate ride Ji; Ji again is Great Yin — so it is the servant being bumped and colliding. Ren is moreover water and is struck by punishment; the Injury Gate is door-pressed, so it is a water calamity.
Again, comparing with the opposite palace, both Bing and Ding are fire yet meet Alarm; also riding Liu He, it must be many people — so one knows it is a matter of scalding by soup and fire, fright, and injury.
Furthermore, Ji and Ren gather in Kan, indicating a water image; again meeting the Death Gate and Rui Star, which indicate the Buddhist hall. Wu is earth, Ren is water — the image of a pond or water pit.
The hour stem Ding falls to Dui, originally having the image of a young child; the flying stem Ding also falls to Kan — this is the image of a child falling into water. Ding is also the same as the month stem, so it must fulfill among relatives and friends — thus it can also be judged and verified.
