Secrets of Spells: Thirty-Six Types of Alchemical Waters
Alum Water
Take one jin of alum, specifically that which has no gall and resembles horse teeth. Place it in a green bamboo tube. Thinly shave the outer surface of the tube. Cover the top and bottom with four liang of saltpeter. Secure the mouth tightly. Place it in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water. Using Hua Pool water to coat iron makes the iron look like copper. Take white refined iron essence and place it inside to form water.
Another method:
Take three jin of alum, place it in a raw bamboo tube, thinly shave its surface, wrap the mouth of the tube with fine cotton, bury it in wet soil, and after four or five days, it becomes water.
Another method:
First, soak the alum in pure vinegar until damp. Then place it in the container. Use two liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Bury it three chi deep in the ground. After fifteen days, it becomes water.
Realgar Water
Take one jin of realgar, place it in a raw bamboo tube. Add four liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer as above. Place it in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Use two liang of saltpeter. Place bitter wine in a large jar. Put the jar inside the tube. Seal tightly. Bury it in the central courtyard, three chi into the earth. After twenty days, it becomes water. The taste is sweet and beautiful, and the color is yellow and turbid.
Pararealgar Water
Take one jin of pararealgar, place it in a raw bamboo tube. Add four liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer as above. Place it in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Add two liang each of alum and saltpeter. Place in a large jar. Bury in the ground. After twenty days, it becomes water. The taste is sweet and the color is yellow.
Cinnabar Water
Take one jin of cinnabar, place it in a raw bamboo tube. Add two liang of stone gall and four liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer as above. Place it in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Use two liang each of stone gall and saltpeter. Place in a large jar. Bury as above. After thirty days, it becomes water. The taste is bitter and the color is red.
Zengqing Water
Take one jin of Zengqing, place it in a raw bamboo tube. Add four liang of saltpeter and two liang of mercury. Seal the mouth with lacquer as above. Place it in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Use two liang of saltpeter. Place in a rice jar. Bury as above. After thirty days, it becomes water.
White Qing Water
Take one jin of White Qing and one he of rabbit blood. Place them together in a bamboo tube. Place in bitter wine. After fifty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Add two liang of saltpeter. Place in a large jar. Bury using the method above. After thirty days, it becomes water. The taste is sour and the color is green.

Magnetite Water
Take one jin of magnetite, one liang of realgar, and one liang of stone gall. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer as above. Place in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Sulfur Water
Take one jin of sulfur, one sheng of dew from mulberry trees in the eighth month, and two liang of saltpeter. Place in a bamboo tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer as above. Place in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
First, moisten the sulfur with pure vinegar until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. Add two liang of saltpeter. Bury in the ground using the method above. After fifteen days, it becomes water, named "Bao Tian's Restraint."
Saltpeter Water
Sieve the saltpeter. Salt-brine it until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. Seal the mouth tightly. Bury it four chi four cun deep in the ground. After five days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Take three jin of saltpeter. Place in a raw bamboo tube. Thinly shave the bamboo. Wrap and tie the mouth. Bury in wet soil four chi deep. After five days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Process the saltpeter with earth dragon blood to moisten it until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Bury three chi deep in the ground. After fifteen days, it becomes water. The taste is bitter, named Yang Xun.
White Quartz Water
Take one jin of white quartz, one sheng of crane blood, and four liang of saltpeter. Combine and place in the tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Place in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Purple Quartz Water
Take one jin of purple quartz. Place in a bamboo tube. Add four liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Using the method above, place in the Hua Pool. After forty days, it becomes water.
Red Stone Grease Water
Take one jin of red stone grease and one sheng of black dog blood. Mix them. Add four liang of saltpeter. Place in the tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Using the method above, place in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Black Stone Grease Water
Take one jin of black stone grease and four liang of saltpeter. Combine and place in the tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer as above. Bury five chi into the ground. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Green Quartz Water
Take one jin of green quartz, one liang of Zengqing, and two liang of cinnabar. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Place in the Hua Pool. After one hundred days, it becomes water.
Stone Cinnamon Essence Water
Take one jin of Stone Cinnamon Essence and one sheng of ginger juice. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Afterward, place in the Hua Pool. After ten days, it becomes water.
Stone Sulfur Dan Water
Take one jin of Stone Sulfur Dan and one jin of magnetite. Cast them together. Place in a bamboo tube. Bury it. After ten days and ten nights, it becomes water.
Purple He Stone Water
Take one jin of Purple He Stone and one sheng of hemp juice. Combine and place in a copper vessel. After ten days, it becomes water.
Hua Stone Water
Take one jin of Hua Stone and two liang of cinnabar. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Bury one zhang into the ground. After ten days, it becomes water.
Cold Water Stone Water
Take one jin of Cold Water Stone and one liang of stone gall. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Boil it. After one day, it becomes water.
Congealed Water Stone Water
Take one jin of Congealed Water Stone and one he of Qingliang blood. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Bury in wet soil three chi deep. After ten days, it becomes water.
Ling Stone Water
Take one jin of Ling Stone and one sheng of Fuyi feces. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Bury it. After one hundred days, it becomes water.
Talc Water
Take one jin of talc, one sheng of mica, and one sheng of戎 salt. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Bury it. After ten days, it becomes water.
Yellow Ear Stone Water
Take one jin of Yellow Ear Stone and one sheng of dew from all herbs in the eighth month. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Soak in bitter wine. After one hundred days, it becomes water.
Nine Sons Stone Water
Take one jin of Nine Sons Stone and one sheng of Lou juice. Combine and place in a copper vessel. Let it stand. After ten days, it becomes water.
Li Stone Water
Take one jin of Li Stone and one sheng of bamboo sap. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Bury five chi into the ground. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Process the Li Stone. Moisten it with pure vinegar until damp. Place in a soil gold container with charcoal fire. Roast for three days until red. Process it and place in a bamboo tube. Generally one jin, add two liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Bury three chi deep in the ground. After twenty days, it becomes water.
Stone Brain Water
Take one jin of Stone Brain and one jin of sulfur. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Bury it. After ten days, it becomes water.
Mica Water
Take one jin of cooked mica powder, two liang of washing water, and one liang of stone water. Stir and moisten until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. Bury five chi into the ground. After twenty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Process mica powder. Moisten it with cinnamon water,戎 washing water, and water in equal parts until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. Generally add two liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Using the method above, bury three chi deep in the ground. Cover with the lid of an empty well. After twenty-five days, it becomes water. Store in a copper vessel. Place in wet soil. It is named Yunying Liquid, capable of transforming nine essences of congealed stone.
Gold Water
Take one jin of gold and two jin of green alum. Place in a raw bamboo tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Place in the Hua Pool. After fifty days, it becomes water.
Silver Water
Take one jin of silver, two sheng of wheat sauce clear liquid, two sheng of pure wine, and one sheng of red millet male wine. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Using the method, place in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Lead and Tin Water
Shave two jin of lead. Mix with four liang of saltpeter. Combine and place in the tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Using the method, place in the Hua Pool. After one hundred days, it becomes water.
Jade Powder Water
Take one jin of jade powder, one sheng of peony ash, one sheng of white dog blood, and ten umbilical toads. Grind and squeeze to extract juice. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Using the method, place in the Hua Pool. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Another method:
Take white jade the size of a wall fat. Coat it with toad larva juice. It will dissolve and melt like food. Grind it into powder. Use pear fruit powder and toad spider powder. After one day and one night, it transforms into water.
Take earth dragon juice and mix with mica water. Moisten the jade powder until damp. Place in a copper scoop. After one night, it transforms into water, named Jade Paste.
Lacquer Water
Take one sheng of lacquer and eighteen large winter crabs. Cover them. After fifty days, it becomes water.
Another water:
Take one jin of pure lacquer. Place in a copper vessel. Add eighteen large winter crabs into the lacquer. After one night, it transforms into water. Add one jin of mica powder into the lacquer. After one night, it transforms into water. Take three jin of white jade powder. Place in the lacquer. After three days, it transforms into water. It is named Divine Paste. Using the medicine juice allows one to see through and perceive the divine, shining across the four seas, with nothing obstructed.
Cinnamon Water
Take one jin of cinnamon powder and three sheng of scallion mucus. Combine and place in a bamboo tube. Steam it. After three days and three nights, it becomes water.
Another method:
Process cinnamon powder. Moisten it with white scallion juice until damp. Then use dew from the mountains, or rain, snow, and flowing water from a thousand miles. Moisten the mica and cinnamon until warm. Place in a raw bamboo tube. Generally one jin, add two liang of saltpeter. Place in rice steamer. Steam it. After three days and three nights, it transforms into water, named Wood Stone Gain.
Salt Water Method
Process and sieve the salt. Moisten it with water until damp. Thinly shave the tube to hold it. Seal the mouth heavily and tightly. Bury four chi four cun into the ground. Wet the top with water. After four days, it becomes water.
The above thirty-six water methods are ancient and essential. They are easy to follow and use. Among the various stones, there are some not recognized by the world, and not all elixirs require them. The fifteen types of Zhu Dian Tou are limited recommendations from later times. Since the stone names are the same, they are combined here.
Stone Gall Water
Process one jin of stone gall. Moisten it with pure vinegar until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. Cover with two liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Place vinegar in a rice jar. Put the bamboo tube inside. Bury three chi deep in the ground. After fifteen days, it becomes water, named Yunliang Stone Xun.
Copper Green Water
Process copper green. Moisten it with Wu Xun water until submerged and damp. Place in a bamboo tube. For one jin, add two liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Bury using the method above. After fifteen days, it becomes water. Steam and dissolve it. It is named Hualong Xi, resembling green jade, also named Yunying Xun.
Rong Salt Water
Process one jin of Rong salt. Moisten it with earth dragon juice until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. For one jin, add three liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Bury three chi into the ground. After fifteen days, it becomes water.
Brine Salt Water
Process brine salt. Moisten it with pure wine until damp. Place in an iron vessel. Roast over charcoal fire. After three days and three nights, it turns red and is processed. Place in a bamboo tube. For one jin, add two liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Bury three chi into the ground. After fifteen days, it becomes water, named Jinliu Liquid.
Iron Flower Water
Take iron flower. Process it with Yunying salt water. Moisten until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. For one jin, add two liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Place in a vinegar-filled offering jar. Bury three chi into the ground. After forty-five days, it becomes water, named Xuanling Jin Ci Xi Water, which can lead to immortality.
Lead Lamp Water
Take five spoonfuls of frost and snow. Combine with gold lamp flower powder. Moisten with Yunying salt water until damp. Place in a bamboo tube. For one jin, add two liang of saltpeter. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Place in a large jar of vinegar. Bury three chi into the ground. Warm it with horse dung fire. After thirty days, it becomes water.
Lamp Water
Process accumulated snow. Moisten with yellow light quicksilver until damp. Generally one jin of lamp powder, use three liang of quicksilver. Place in a bamboo tube. Seal the mouth with lacquer. Place in a vinegar-filled offering jar. Bury three chi into the ground. Warm with horse dung fire. After thirty days, it becomes water, named Liujing. In deep places, follow this formula to combine. Ten thousand yuan will not be achieved.
