Auspicious Date Selection for Huang Shaozong’s Ancestral Temple and Former Residence

This temple faces Qian–Xun with a San Jiao offset toward Hai–Si, sitting at celestial degree 318. It was founded in the Renyin year (1842), on the fourth day of the tenth lunar month, at the Hai hour. The chart is:

In this chart the mountain receives qi; the two branches combine and the two stems link — a pair of butterflies in flight. What matters is that the heavenly stems be linked; if this chart were floating without root it would be inauspicious. Ren water has root, so it forms an auspicious configuration. The Eating God is strong, making this a good chart: it bodes gains in wealth and increase in offspring, with intelligent children and great success in the examinations.

Huang Shaozong’s former residence was also set on the auspicious Zi–Wu orientation offset toward Gui–Ding, built in the second Xianfeng year of the Qing. Its chart is:

Who chose this chart is unknown; though the mountain receives qi, one sha remains latent and untransformed. The heavenly stems in the chart clash with each other, and so do the earthly branches. Though clashing can clear sha, how can that stand against the enduring power of the earth?
