It is commonly said that the distinction between mountain and water qi involves different jurisdictions over offspring and wealth, yet one must not cling to this rigidly. In ancient times, famous masters often used sites with mountain dragons but no water dragons, and there were cases of great wealth and honor. There were also plains that had water dragons but no mountain dragons. Thus, by the doctrine of water methods, the incoming and outgoing mouths are the gates of life and death; if they are not propitious, no calamity is greater. Some sand peaks are classified as official, killing, servant, ghost, or wealth; those that meet an auspicious pattern cannot avoid calamity, and the reverse holds for the noble as well. Resolving sand and receiving water are originally one body and cannot be separated from each other.
